Gowfers take the spoils at Ogilvy Park
Arbroath Vics 0 Carnoustie Panmure 2
Carnoustie Panmure travelled to Ogilvy Park on Wednesday night for a D.J. Laing League Cup Clash with Arbroath Vics.
The Gowfers made three changes from the side held to a goal-less draw by Forfar West End at the weekend.
Grant Miller, Robert Hendry and Garry Buick were all on from the start, replacing Steven Narey, Gary Ogilvie and Kevin Cumming.
Carnoustie kicked-off and were first to show, Conway playing a good ball through to Hall, but Farquharson stepped in to clear.
In five minutes, Vics had a half-chance to open the scoring, but Taylor shot high over the top from 30 yards.
It was the Gowfers who were doing most of the pressing, however, and in 14 minutes Hall took the ball up the line and sent in a cross to Buick, who headed narrowly over.
Four minutes later, a Conway cross appeared to be curling into the net, but Hutchison got up to touch the ball over from just under the crossbar.
Carnoustie had a strong penalty claim turned down in 20 minutes. Collier collected a pass from Brand, then appeared to be brought down inside the box, but the referee saw nothing wrong and waved play on.
A minute later, the visitors again came close when a Buick header from a Brand cross slid just wide.
Carnoustie continued to press and took the lead at last in 27 minutes. Buick slipped a good pass through to BRAND, who took a couple of steps before smashing the ball into the back of the net from 18 yards.
Two minutes later, the Gowfers almost doubled their lead when a Craig free kick picked out Buick, who chipped the advancing 'keeper, but the ball dropped the wrong side of the crossbar.
Hendry was next to come close, heading just wide from a Hall cross.
In 40 minutes, a great inter-passing movement between Conway, Hendry and D. Smith ended with Smith's fierce drive skimming the top of the crossbar with Hutchison well beaten.
Half-time: Arbroath Vics 0, Carnoustie Panmure 1
Within a minute of the restart, Carnoustie won a corner when a Hall shot was deflected behind by Reilly. Conway's flag kick picked out Brand, but Hutchison brought off a great save.
The Gowfers relentless pressure was rewarded with a second counter in 51 minutes. Conway hammered in a fierce shot, which Hutchison failed to hold and COLLIER, following up, nodded the ball home from three yards.
Four minutes later, it was almost three when Collier took a pass from Brand and drilled in a shot, but this time Hutchison got down well to make a fine stop.
Hall created another opening for the Gowfers with a good ball through to Conway, whose cross-cum-shot deceived Hutchison, but slid narrowly past the 'keeper's left-hand upright.
A through ball from Duncan gave Vics a rare scoring opportunity, but Butter rushed from his line to grab the ball at the feet of the inrushing Bell.
In 75 minutes, the home side again came close to pulling a goal back when Bell ran on to a through pass from Duncan, but Miller got back to make a great saving tackle.
Despite Vics coming more into things late in the game, Carnoustie remained well on top and were unlucky not to seal their victory with a third in 84 minutes. Substitute Warren whipped in a cross looking for Collier, but Hutchison got down well to save at the striker's feet and the Gowfers had to settle for a 2-0 win.
