Arbroath Vics 2 Carnoustie Panmure 11

Carnoustie Panmure's first fixture of 2007 was an away friendly against Arbroath Vics at Ogilvy Park on Tuesday.

With regular goalkeeper Michael 'Chipper' Whyte unavailable, Gowfers' manager Ian Flaherty included a trialist and listed Gary Bollan, assistant boss George O'Boyle and himself as substitutes. Vics were also under strength and fielded several amateurs.

Carnoustie kicked-off and won a free kick after three minutes when an Abbot cross was handled by a Vics defender 20 yards out.CONWAY stepped up and fired the ball past the homesters' trialist 'keeper to open the scoring.

The Gowfers doubled their lead in 15 minutes when a Steele through ball was touched on by Hall to RUSSELL, who stroked it home.

Four minutes later, good work by Russell saw the ball played through to BRAND, who scored from 12 yards.

In 25 minutes, Steele took a corner on the right and picked out BRAND,who rose to place a superb header past the 'keeper into the back of the net.

Vics pulled a goal back in 40 minutes when hesitation by Miller allowed DUNCAN in to score.

Two minutes later, however, the Gowfers went nap after Ogilvie released STEELE, who beat the full-back, then rounded the 'keeper before rolling the ball home.

Half-time: Arbroath Vics 1, Carnoustie Panmure 5

Carnoustie made one change for the second half, Conway replaced by O'Boyle.

In 52 minutes, the substitute had a hand in the Gowfers' sixth when he fired in a shot, which PATON, attempting to clear, helped the ball into his own net.

Carnoustie continued to press and in 58 minutes made it seven when Russell played the ball through for BRAND to complete his hat-trick. Three minutes later, Abbot lobbed a pass through to BRAND, who notched his fourth of the game, giving the 'keeper no chance from 10 yards.

Vics reduced the leeway in 75 minutes when a long ball out of defence picked out BELL, who looked suspiciously offside, but ran on and shot low past the trialist 'keeper for the home side's second. Back came Carnoustie, and in 79 minutes a Brand through ball set up STEELE, who fired home from eight yards.

A minute later, STEELE took Carnoustie into double figures, Hall the provider. With five minutes to go, Steele sent a good cross to RUSSELL, who completed the scoring.
