Gowfers New Boys Get Their First Taste Of Action
Carnoustie Panmure 3 Carnoustie YM 0
New signings Aaron Conway, Kevin Cummings and James Russell, all made their debuts for Carnoustie Panmure in a pre-season friendly against local amateur side Carnoustie YM at Laing Park on Saturday afternoon.
Fourth new boy Euan Hall was on holiday and therefore unavailable to play.
Also turning out for the Gowfers on the day was a trialists goalkeeper, who played the full match, and several other young trialists, who were all given a run in the second half.
With Panmure slow to settle, it was YM who made the brighter start, but failed to cash-in on their early pressure.
Conway then setup a chance for the Gowfers with a great cross to the far post. The ball was headed back across goal and fell to Brand, who turned it home, only to be ruled offside.
Panmure were now coming more into the game and took the lead in 15 minutes when an enterprising CONWAY strike from all of 40 yards slid under the YM keeper and into the net.
Kydd almost got YM back on level terms when he rose unchallenged inside the box, but headed past from 10 yards.
Shortly afterwards, a mazy run by Lorimer gave YM another scoring opportunity, but his final shot was just too high.
YM continued to press and forced a corner on the right, but Fergusons cross was too strong and curled wide of the far post.
Narey put Panmure under further pressure when he fouled Watson 25 yards out. Kydd flighted the resultant free kick over the defensive wall, but his shot was well held by the trialists keeper.
As play then switched to the other end, a fine through ball by Conway carved open the YM defence. Russell found himself in the clear and unleashed a fierce shot, which the YM keeper did well to turn over the bar for a fruitless corner.
Minutes later, Craig setup another great chance for Russell, but his first time shot flashed across the face of the goal and wide of the far post.
In 43 minutes, Carnoustie went two up after Cumming was fouled on the left-hand edge of the box. Craig took a quick free kick to BRAND, who knocked the ball home from six yards, with the YM defence caught napping.
On the stroke of half time, Thain was going through on the Panmure goal when he appeared to be fouled by Narey, but the referee waved aside the penalty claims, denying YM an opportunity to halve the deficit.

On the restart, YM were again first to show and had the ball in the net when Esposito fired home from six yards, but he was deemed offside and the goal was disallowed.
Panmure's first chance of the second half came from a Conway corner on the left, but Graham's header lacked direction and went past.
Buick and Conway went off and were replaced by Narey and Cumming.
Russell came close to increasing the Gowfers lead with a fine solo run, beating three mean in the process, but his shot from 15 yards was too direct and went straight to the YM keeper.
In 67 minutes, Panmure made a further change, Newman (3) replacing Smith.
Two minutes later, the Gowfers went three up when a Craig cross from a Russell short corner was met by GRAHAM, who outjumped everyone inside the box and glided a header past the keeper into the roof of the net.
Narey then laid a pass off to Russell, whose shot from the right-hand edge of the box curled just wide of the left-hand post.
Shortly afterwards, Panmure made a further four substitutions, Ogilvie, Conway, Maher and Brand replacing Craig, Miller, Narey and Russell.
Conway took a short corner on the right to Maher, whose cross was just too high for Wilkie and the chance went a-begging.
In the next Gowfers attack, Conway went down in the box, but it was obviously a dive and the referee waved play on.
Right on the final whistle, Cumming had a chance to seal Panmure's victory with a fourth when he got on the end of a Maher cross, but put his header straight to the YM keeper, who saved easily.
