Carnoustie set the ball rolling and won an early free kick when Rollo pulled down Voigt 40 yards out. Wilkie, at the far post, got his head to Conway's kick and nodded the ball back across goal to VOIGT, who cooly knocked it home from close in with only 38 seconds on the watch.
Encouraged by their excellent start, the Gowfers continued to push forward and gained another free kick when Voigt was again fouled, this time by Payne.
Conway again picked out Wilkie, who powered in a header, but Fordyce brought off a good save, pushing the ball away. It fell to Brand, but the angle was too tight and he could only knock the ball against the post and out behind for a goal kick.
In four minutes, Morrison played a great ball through to Conway, who was the fouled by Stewart 30 yards out. CONWAY took the kick himself and curled a great shot over the defensive wall and into the top right-hand corner of the net to put the Gowfers two ahead.
Carnoustie were now well on top, but had a scare in 11 minutes when Voigt took a head knock while going up for a high ball with Tovey. He had to go off, but was able to continue after a spot of treatment from the trainer.
In 15 minutes, Wilkie was adjudged to have fouled Coogan on the edge of the "D". Wilson took the kick and blasted the ball against the defensive wall. However, the referee ordered a re-take and showed Hendry the yellow card for encroaching.
Payne took the second kick, but with the aid of a block by the defensive wall, Wilkie was able to thump the ball away to safety.
Two minutes later, the Gowfers had a half-chance to increase their tally when Narey skipped past Tinley and fed Hendry, who fired in a low shot, but Fordyce got down well to make the save.
Midway through the first half, Ogilvie put the Carnoustie defence under pressure when he fouled Coogan on the halfway line. Rollo's free kick was flicked on by Coogan at the edge of the box, but before Tinley could get in a shot, McAfferty came quickly off his line to take the catch.
In 29 minutes, the Gowfers came very close to going further ahead when Narey was fouled by Coogan just inside the Spider's half. Conway sent a great ball right into the home goalmouth and it fell to Wilkie, who touched it over the bar from six yards.
In 36 minutes anothe chance went a-beging after Voigt had been fouled by Tovey. Conway's free kick was headed back across the face of the goal by Wilkie, but Hendry put his shot straight at Fordyce, who saved easily.
Three minutes later, Carnoustie again came close when Brand collected the ball from a Hall throw-in and threaded a pass through to Hendry, whose low drive from 18 yards was blocked behind by Davidson for a corner. Conway played a quick one-two with Hendry before sending over a deep cross, but Fordyce got up well to take the catch.
Right on the half-time, the Gowfers won yet another corner after Hall laid the ball of to Hendry, who drilled in a fierce shot, but Fordyce brought off a great save, turning the ball round his right-hand post. Conway took the resultant flag kick, but his cross was headed clear by Davidson.

Although Downfield who got the second half under way, it was Carnoustie who were first to show, winning a corner on the left when Conway's attempted cross was deflected behind by Rollo. Conway took the kick himself, but Davidson rose to head clear just before Voigt could get the necessary touch.
In 51 minutes, Conway cut inside Tinley and Lawson before threading a pass through to VOIGT, who hammered the ball past Fordyce for his own second and the Gowfers' third.
Carnoustie continued to press and almost made it four in 55 minutes. Wilkie got his head to a Conway free kick, but failed to get his effort on target and the ball slid narrowly over the top.
Shortly afterwards, Conway sent another great cross to the back post. Voigt got up to make contact, but his acrobatic shot was too high.
Hendry was next to have a shot at goal after getting on the end of a Narey free kick, but faile to put enough power behind his effort and Fordyce had no trouble making the save.
From the keeper's clearance, Payne tried a long-range shot, but put the ball well wide of McAfferty's righ-hand post.
On the hour mark, the Gowfers' support had a scare when a slip by Wilkie allowed substitute McLaughlin to run in on gaol and fire off a shot, but McAfferty came rushing out and managed to block the ball over the bar with his feet. Tinley's flag kick was blocked behind by Wilkie for a second corner. Again, Tinley took the kick and this time his cross was headed clear by Wilkie.
In 63 minutes, Carnoustie made their first change, Hendry making way for Abbot.
Downfield mounted a promising attack when good work by Lawson and Coogan released Carlin, who cut inside Ogilvie, but shot well wide of McAfferty's left-hand upright.
In 70 minutes, the Gowfers made a second change, replacing Brand with Collier.
Next minute, Conway made a good run up the left and laid the ball off to Hall, but before he could bring it under control, he was floored by Wilson. Conway took the resultant free kick, but sent the ball over the top without troubling Fordyce.
Carnoustie's third and final chance was made in 75 minutes when Russell took over from Hall.
In a rare home attack, Lawson linked well with Carlin, who tried a shot, but McAfferty had no trouble making the save.
Carnoustie were unlucky not to notch a fourth in 81 minutes. Russell and Conway combined well to set up a chance for Voigt, who volleyed in a shot only to see it rebound clear off the underside of the bar, with the 'keeper beaten.
In 86 minutes, Downfield came close to getting a goal back after Lawson took a pass from Wilson and fired in a shot, which McAfferty did well to tip over the crossbar. Lawson crossed the corner right into the sic yard box, but Ogilvie got up well to head clear.
Abbot collected the loose ball and started to make his way upfield, but was then wrestled to the ground by Wilson and the ball spun out of play. Incredibly, the referee saw nothing wrong, but did award the throw-in to the Gowfers.
The remaining few minutes failed to produce any clearcut chances as both teams appeared content to play out time.
Fordyce clutched the ball safely from a Conway corner,and as the 'keeper cleared upfield, the referee brought proceedings to a close and Carnoustie were through to to the semi-finals.
