Gowfers Get Monkey Off Their Back

Carnoustie Panmure 3 Kinnoull 0

At the fifth time of asking, Carnoustie Panmure have at last broken their 2007 duck with a 3-0 victory over basement boys Kinnoull in a Whyte and Mackay East Super League fixture at a windswept and rain-lashed Laing Park on Saturday afternoon.

The match was one of only three games in the Tayside and North-East Fife area to beat the weather on a day far better-suited to the fireside than outdoor activity.

New signing Jon Voigt, loaned out to the Gowfers from senior side Arbroath, was on from the start and, although not getting on the scoresheet himself, played a key role in all three goals.

Two other changes were made to the side beaten by Bathgate Thistle the previous week, Gary Ogilvie and Kevin Steele replacing Dougie Craig and Euan Hall, who both dropped to the bench where they were joined by James Collier, Grant Miller and spare goalkeeper Michael Whyte.

In 27 minute Carnoustie took the lead after Voigt made a good run up the left to the corner of the box. His cross to the far post was met by STEELE, who drove the ball across the 'keeper into the far corner of the net to put the Gowfers ahead.

Half-time: Carnoustie Panmure 1, Kinnoull 0.

In 48 minutes, Abbot was yellow-carded for a foul on Gordon.

Carnoustie were now doing all the pressing and it was no surprise when they went further ahead in 52 minutes. New boy Voigt was again the provider, his delightful chip across the face of the goal from wide right near the bye-line finding HENDRY, who headed powerfully home from five yards.

Shortly afterwards, Voigt almost made it three when he was put through by Bollan and lobbed the advancing 'keeper, but Gow got back in time to hook the ball clear off the goal-line.

In 63 minutes, Carnoustie did go three up, thanks to another assist from Voigt. His inch-perfect chip from out on the right picked out CUMMING, who bulleted a header home from eight yards, giving Bruce no chance.
