Gowfers Too Hot From The Spot For Dokens
Carnoustie Panmure 0 Dundee North End 0 (Carnoustie Won 4-1 on penalties)It was a game of few clear-cut chances, but when it came to the crunch the Gowfers finishing was spot on.
North End kicked off and early pressure by the visitors saw Craig forced to clear for a corner on the left, but Clark's cross was headed clear by Cumming.
Play then switched to the other end where Carnoustie won a corner off Fallon, but O'Connor cleared easily from Conway's flag kick.
In the Gowfers next attack, Collier delivered a good cross from the left to the far post, but Russell's shot was blocked by a defender and cleared.
Russell was then fouled by Clark 40 yards out, and Hall played the free kick through to Brand, whose first-time shot from 15 yards was blocked by Bertie.
At this stage Carnoustie were doing most of the pressing and after getting on the end of a Russell cross from the right, Voigt tried a shot from the edge of the box, but keeper Ferrie clutched the ball safely at his left-hand post.
Shortly afterwards, a fine cross from the right from Hall set up a chance for Voigt, who should have done better than head over from 10 yards.
Conway then tried a shot from the edge of the box, but Fallon was there to block it. North End made a substitution in 22 minutes, replacing Bertie with Henderson.
Carnoustie came their nearest yet to opening the scoring when a through ball from Hall was chested down by Brand into the path of Voigt, whose fierce drive was deflected past for a corner. Conway took a short corner to D.Smith, whose cross looking for Collier was cut out by keeper Ferrie before the striker could get a telling touch.
At the other end, Fallon tried his luck with a long-range drive, but the ball went straight to Whyte, who saved easily.
Back came the Gowfers, who again went close when a Conway 25 yard effort took a deflection off Milton, but fortunately for the Doken's defender the ball flew straight into Ferrie'arms.
Russell then made a fine run from the halfway, but his rasping 25 yard drive was just wide of Ferrie's left-hand upright, with the keeper struggling to get there.
The visitors again had a lucky escape when Jenkins attempted to head clear from a Conway cross. The ball dropped out to D.Smith, but he squandered the opportunity by shooting well past.
Voigt then took a pass from Collier and chipped the ball through to Collier, who wasted a great chance by heading straight at Ferrie from eight yards.
Just on half-time, North End had a chance to put the Carnoustie goal under pressure when a Milton free kick from the left was punched over for a corner by Whyte, but Clark's cross was headed clear by Conway and the scoresheet remained blank.

In 57 minutes, Abbot was shown the yellow card after going in rather whole-heartedly on O'Connor in a bid to win the ball.
With an hour on the watch, good play by Abbot and Voigt released Conway, who cut inside Garrick and fired in a low, hard shot, which Ferrie got down to block behind for a corner. Conway's deep cross was played back in by Collier to Russell, who headed high over the top.
Two minutes later, the Gowfers won another corner on the left and this time Conway picked out Russell direct, but he again sent his header over the bar.

In 81 minutes, Carnoustie again came close to opening the scoring when Craig took a pass from Abbot and unleashed a fierce drive from 18 yards, but Ferrie dived to his right to bring off a great save, turning the ball round the post for a corner. Conway's cross picked out Abbot, but he scooped the ball over the top and the scoresheet remained blank.
Before play could restart, the Gowfers made a change with Steele going on in place of Russell.
Two minutes later, a Jenkins free kick from halfway was touched on by R.Smith, but Clark?s shot was weak and wide of Whyte?s right-hand post.

The referee then brought the tie to a close with nearly eight minutes of stoppage time showing on the watch and it was on to penalites.
Penalty shoot out
Carnoustie won the toss for the shoot-out and elected to go first. STEELE fired the ball in low and hard and although Ferrie got a hand to the shot, he failed to prevent it hitting the back of the net.First up for North End was CLARK, who drilled the ball home, giving Whyte no chance.
BRAND took the Gowfers second and saw his fierce shot strike the underside of the bar. The ball came down, bounced back up off the hard surface and again struck the underside of the bar before landing up in the back of the net via the keepers back.
Garrick was next up for the Dokens, but Whyte had no trouble making the save and Carnoustie now had the advantage.
VOIGT then slammed the Gowfers third kick into the back of the net, giving Ferrie no chance.
Next it was Milton's turn for North End, but he made a complete hash of his kick, not only sending the ball over the bar, but also over the perimeter fence and out of the ground.
With the Gowfers already two ahead, it was then all over when CONWAY also found the back of the net with the despairing Ferrie clawing at thin air.
