Carnousite Panmure Versus Blairgowrie

Carnoustie Panmure 3 Blairgowrie 1

Carnoustie kicked-off, but soon found themselves under pressure when Robertson fouled Ireland out on the right touchline. Gellatly's free kick, however, was too direct and straight at McCafferty, who saved easily.

At the other end, Conway set up a chance for the Gowfers with a neat lay-off at the edge of the box, but Muhsin shot straight at Nugent in the visitors' goal.

Narey was then fouled by Gellatly 45 yards out and from the resultant free kick Conway picked out Voigt, whose header was well held by Nugent.

Carnoustie were doing most of the pressing and were unlucky not to open the scoring when a Conway long-range effort flashed just wide of the 'keeper's left-hand post.

Shortly afterwards, a long through ball from Conway released Steele, who outpaced Christison, but with only the 'keeper to beat, curled his shot past the left-hand post.

In a rare Blairgowrie counter-attack, a Neave 35-yard strike was turned round the post by McCafferty for a corner. Halenka got his head to Gellatly's cross, but McCafferty brought off a fine save.

Blair were now coming more into the game and gave the home defence a few anxious moments when a great cross by Graham to the far post was met by Duncan, who headed narrowly past when he could perhaps have done better.

In 31 minutes, Halenka was booked for a foul on Cook. From the resultant free kick 35 yards out, Conway fed Abbot, who drove just wide of Nugent's right-hand post.

Carnoustie should have gone ahead when Voigt was sent clear by Cook. He rounded the 'keeper, but when faced with an empty net unbelievably fired the ball against the crossbar from where it rebounded clear.

Moments later, the Gowfers construed another equally glaring miss when a Narey cross was knocked back across the face of the goal by Conway to Steele, who headed past an open goal when it looked easier to score.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 0 Blairgowrie 0

Blairgowrie resumed after the break with Hirons on in place of Townsley.

The Perthshire men now had a slight wind blowing in their favour and a Duncan rasping shot tested McCafferty, who did well to turn the ball for a corner. Ireland's flag kick was headed goalwards by Graham, but Narey cleared off the line to keep the scores level.

Muhsin got down the right for Carnoustie and linked with Conway, whose cross to the far post found Cook, who headed past from good position.

In the Gowfers' next attack, Narey fired a good ball into the box to Steele, who shot over from 15 yards.

Despite again having most of the play, Carnoustie went behind in 60 minutes when McCafferty did well to get a hand to a Halenka free kick, but could only turn the ball against the post and NEAVE, following up, shot home with the 'keeper lying on the ground.

In 64 minutes, Blairgowrie replaced Farquharson with Menzies.

A minute later, the Gowfers were back level. VOIGT outpaced Christison to a through ball from Abbot and rounded the advancing 'keeper before sliding the ball into the empty net to make amends for his earlier miss.

Things were at last going the Gowfers' way and in 70 minutes a Voigt shot struck Steele in the crowded goalmouth, but broke to COOK, who fired high into the net, giving Nugent no chance.

Just a minute later, the match was all over as a contest when STEELE got on the end of an Abbot cross and glided the ball into the net from eight yards for Carnoustie's third.

Having put some daylight between themselves and their opponents, the Gowfers made a change in 73 minutes with Wilkie replacing Voigt.

Blairgowrie responded with their third and final substitution, Duncan off and Murray on.

Conway almost made it four with a fierce 35 yard drive, which flashed inches wide of Nugent's right-hand post.

At the other end, a Graham snap shot from 25 yards narrowly missed McCafferty's left-hand upright.

Abbot was booked in 78 minutes for a foul on Ireland. Gellatly's 25 yard free kick cleared the defensive wall, but was clutched safely by McCafferty.

Conway was again unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet when he rounded Nugent at the corner of his box and slid the ball towards the empty net, only to see his shot slip wide of the far post.

The last chance of the match fell to Blairgowrie when Neave collected a through ball from Graham and went through on goal, but McCafferty came smartly off his line and made a brave diving save at the feet of the onrushing player to deny a certain goal-scoring opportunity.

Shortly afterwards, the referee blew for full-time and the Gowfers were through to face either Forfar West End or Lochee United in the quarter-finals.
