Carnoustie Panmure 2 Bonnyrigg Rose 0

On Saturday afternoon, Carnoustie Panmure were back on home turf as they played host to Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic in the Whyte and Mackay East Super League.

The Gowfers got the game under way, playing towards the town end, but it was Bonnyrigg who applied the first real pressure, forcing two corners in quick succession before the ball was eventually cleared by Cook.

In four minutes, Steele collected a pass wide on the left and took the ball forward before sending in a good cross from which Collier headed just wide.

Two minutes later, Steele was again sent clear on the left and this time COLLIER made no mistake from the cross, knocking the ball past Maley from 10 yards.

As Bonnyrigg launced a quick counter-attack, Elliott tried a shot from all of 30 yards. In 16 minutes, Rose attacked again, Burrell linking well with Paliczka, who tried a shot, but was well off target.

Three minutes later Ewart set up another chance for Paliczka, but this time his shot took a deflection off Stephen and went behind for a corner.

Carnoustie won a free kick in 24 minutes when Kelly was fouled by Ewart. Bollan linked well with Scott, who sent in a deep cross looking for Collier, but Maley came out to take it cleanly.

In 31 minutes, Scott brought down Paliczka 30 yards out, but Elliott's free kick glanced off the defensive wall.

Four minutes later, Reid played the ball through to Riley and the Gowfers stopped tracking back, appealing for offside. The Bonnyrigg man, however, was allowed to run on and fired off a shot, but Cook blocked it away.

With 45 minutes on the watch and the half-time whistle about to sound, Carnoustie's fine first half display was rewarded with a second counter. STEELE, out on the left, received a great crossfield pass from Conway and after leaving the full-back for dead, drove the ball across the 'keeper's body and into the net off the inside of the far post.

Within a minute of the restart, Bonnyrigg came close to pulling a goal back when a Brigain cross came back off the crossbar before going out behind off Cook.

Rose continued to press and in 49 minutes Burrell, Paliczka and Elliott linked in a quick inter-passing movement, which came to a halt when Elliott was fouled by Bollan 20 yards out. Elliott drove the free kick in low and hard. It took a deflection and beat McCafferty to land in the back of the net, but to howls of protest from the Rose supporters, the referee disallowed the 'goal' and ordered a retake. This time Elliott sent the ball wide of the left-hand post.

McCafferty's goal kick reached Steele, who made a great run up on the left and won a corner when his cross was deflected behind by Williamson. Steele took the flag kick himself and crossed the ball right into the goalmouth. It was partially cleared away and fell to Conway, who drove narrowly past.

In 57 minutes, Bonnyrigg made their first change, Williamson being replaced by McCaul.

A minute later, Riley fed a pass through to McCaul, but before he could bring the ball under control he was fouled by Bollan, who was immediately cautioned for his trouble. Parkin took the resultant free kick, but fired the ball straight to McCafferty.

From the keeper's clearance, Smith made his way forward and sent in a deep cross, but Maley came smartly off his line to claim it, under pressure from Collier.

In 67 minutes, Rose made a second change with Riley making way for Sargent. In 75 minutes, the referee had words with the Bonnyrigg management team At this point, the Gowfers decided to make a substitution, replacing Conway with Robertson.

Play then resumed and a minute later Ewart fouled Kelly, who had strong words to say to the Rose player. Kelly was then booked for "adopting a threatening attitude", and Ewart was yellow-carded for the foul.

Just a minute later, Kelly had words with keeper Maley, who had beaten him to a ball played into the Bonnyrigg goalmouth. The striker was a seond yellow card, immediately followed by the red, and the Gowfers were down to 10 men.

When play restarted, Maley's kick out was long and went deep into the Carnoustie half. It was picked up by Paliczka, who was adjudged to have been fouled by Steele, who was then booked for protesting about the decision, as wsa Scott, who was shown the yellow card for throwing the ball away.

In 82 minutes, Bonnyrigg made their third and final change with Ewart being replaced by Bracks.

Carnoustie came close to adding a third in 89 minutes. Smith took a pass from Muhsin, then spotting the 'keeper off his line tried a cheeky lob, which only just cleared the crossbar.
