Brechin Vics 1 Carnoustie Panmure 5

Carnoustie deservedly took the lead in seven minutes. Conway had a shot cleared off the line, but the loose ball broke to VOIGT, who duly drilled it home.

Two minutes later, it was 2-0 after another Conway shot was blocked away. This time the ball fell to CUMMING, who fired it low into the back of the net.

Carnoustie then had to wait until the 24th minute before notching a third. Narey was fouled by Ross 20 yards out and from the resultant free kick CONWAY curled the ball over the defensive wall and into the top corner, giving the 'keeper no chance.

In 38 minutes, Muhsin beat Nicoll wide on the right before sending over a great cross to STEELE, who bulleted a header past Robbie for the Gowfers' fourth.

Carnoustie were doing most of the pressing, but in 52 minutes a rare counter-attack saw Vics pull a goal back. Longmuir sent the ball up the right to Eaton, who was fouled by Hendry. When the free kick came over, the ball bobbled about in the goalmouth with various players getting a touch before GAULD eventually prodded it over the line from two yards.

Carnoustie made yet another change in 56 minutes with Conway returning in place of Cumming.

With five minutes remaining, the Gowfers changed things yet again, Suttie making way for Abbot, and what a substitution that turned out to be. Within seconds, Steele, wide on the left, took the ball to the bye-line, then cut it back to ABBOT, who smashed it home from around 15 yards to complete the scoring in what had been a valuable work-out for both teams.
