Carnousite Panmure Versus Camelon

Panmure Suffer Defeat To Camelon

After holding out for a draw away to Bathgate Thistle the previous week, Carnoustie Panmure were confident of going one better at Laing Park on Saturday afternoon against Camelon, who had opened the league season with a 2-1 home defeat from Oakley United.

In 12 minutes, Camelon won a corner when Shirra's attempted cross was deflected behind by Scott. Kiczynskii's flag kick was met at the back post by Sloan, who headed just wide of McCafferty's right-hand post.

Two minutes later, Camelon again pushed forward and took play right into the Gowfers' goalmouth. In the ensuing scramble, GILLESPIE eventually thumped the ball past McCafferty to put the visitors ahead.

Camelon were doing most of the pressing, but in 24 minutes, Carnoustie had a half-chance to get back on level terms. Cringean's attempt to head clear from a Cook free kick dropped out to Conway, but he volleyed his shot over the top and the chance was lost.

In 39 minutes, Conway required attention from the Gowfers' trainer after he was grounded by Barclay.

Scott's free kick was headed clear by Cringean, but three minutes later Carnoustie at last drew level.

The ball was played into the Camelon box and fell to SMITH, who drove it home for the equaliser.

However, with the watch showing almost two minutes of stoppage time, a long clearance out of the Camelon defence found MCLAREN, who looked at least a yard offside, but the referee's assistant kept his flag down and he was allowed to run on and drive the ball past McCafferty from 12 yards to put the visitors back in front.

Six minutes into the second half, Conway took a pass from Cumming and made his way up the left before swinging in a cross looking for Voigt. Cringean, however, jumped up and stopped the ball with his hand, earning himself a yellow card in the process.

In 62 minutes, Shirra was adjudged to have been fouled by Smith as he latched on to a Hutchison clearance. Graham's free kick picked out Cringean, who powered in a header, which rebounded off McCafferty's right-hand post and was cleared away by Hendry.

In 73 minutes, Hendry was brought down by Cringean, but after consultation with his assistant, the referee showed the yellow card to Lister, who was the wrong player. Had the correct player been cautioned, then he (Cringean) would have had to leave the pitch as he had already been booked.

This incident perhaps unsettled the Gowfers as just a minute later Scott lost the ball to Sloan, whose cross was missed by Shirra, but took a deflection off a defender and went out behind for a corner. When the ball came over, LISTER slipped his marker and nipped in to notch the visitors' third.

On the final whistle, Smith released Voigt who drilled in a low shot, but was just off target and whizzed narrowly past Hutchison's left-hand upright.
