Carnousite Panmure Versus Camelon

Carnoustie Panmure 3 Camelon 3

Camelon won 4-3 on penalties

Carnoustie kicked-off, but Camelon made the brighter start to the game and took the lead after five minutes. Hendry was dispossessed 40 yards out by MCLAREN, who then outpaced him into the box and after rounding the advancing Whyte rolled the ball into the empty net to put the Mariners ahead.

The Gowfers had an early chance to get back on level terms when Narey fired a deep cross into the box, but Voigt's header was weak and Hutchison had no problems making the save.

Camelon, however, continued to do most of the pressing and twice came close to increasing their lead. Firstly, McLaren headed narrowly over from a Donnelly cross, then shortly afterwards Batchelor cut in from the right, but his shot from the edge of the box was straight at Whyte.

At the other end, Conway came close for Carnoustie with a long-range drive, which was only inches over, with the 'keeper stretching.

The Gowfers won a free kick when Voigt was nudged by Cringean just outside the box. Voigt took the kick himself and although his shot cleared the defensive wall, it curled just wide of Hutchison's left-hand post.

Carnoustie continued to press and were rewarded with an equaliser in 24 minutes. A Beith cross from the left was nodded on by Smith towards the far post where VOIGT volleyed the ball high into the roof of the net to make the score 1-1.

Camelon immediately set about trying to regain the lead and after once more beating Hendry for pace, McLaren got in a low shot from the edge of the box, but Whyte made a fine save to keep the sides level.

In 38 minutes, Bell was booked for a foul on Conway.

Shortly afterwards, Carnoustie had a lucky escape when a Donnelly header from a Lister cross rebounded from the crossbar and the loose ball was scrambled clear by Robertson.

Graham saw yellow for a foul on Voigt in 40 minutes, and just two minutes later Cringean followed his team-mate into the referee's book, also for a foul on the Gowfers' striker.

Just on half-time, Lister was allowed to break clear on the Camelon left from a suspiciously offside position. He then crossed the ball inside to Batchelor, whose 25 yard shot flew just wide of Whyte's left-hand upright.

Half-time: Carnoustie Panmure 1 Camelon 1

Early in the second half, Collier and Cringean collided accidentally while going for the ball and both required lengthy treatment before resuming.

McLaren should have put Camelon back in front when he made a fine solo run into the box, but squandered the opportunity by firing the ball wide of Whyte's left-hand post.

Next to have a shot at goal for the Mariners was Lister, whose fierce drive from the edge of the box produced a brilliant save from Whyte, who did well to turn the ball behind for a fruitless corner.

On the hour mark, a McLaren corner from the right was knocked behind by Robertson for a second flag kick, this time from the left. Batchelor's curling cross into the goalmouth was palmed away by Whyte, but CRINGEAN was on hand to head the ball home from six yards to give Camelon the lead once more.

In 69 minutes, Robertson picked up Carnoustie's first booking of the match when he was yellow-carded for a foul on Gillespie.

Four minutes later, Muhsin was also cautioned after a foul on Ballantyne.

McLaughlin replaced Narey in 76 minutes as the Gowfers prepared for one last push. This bore fruit in 83 minutes after Smith was fouled by Graham 25 yards out and from the resultant free kick BEITH curled the ball over the defensive wall and high into the roof of the net for the equaliser.

Just after this, Camelon sent on Mitchell for Donnelly and the substitute immediately made his presence felt with a 25 yard drive that was only just too high.

In 88 minutes, Camelon went ahead again when a McLaren corner from the right picked out the unmarked GRAHAM, who hit the back of the net with a close-in header.

At this point, the Mariners thought they had the tie won, but a minute into stoppage time COLLIER connected with a Conway cross and sent a looping header over the 'keeper into the far corner of the net to level things up at 3-3 and it was on to penalties.

CONWAY was first up for Carnoustie and duly scored, as did MCLAREN for Camelon.

Hutchison then saved well from Beith giving the Mariners an early advantage, but this quickly evaporated when Kiczynski failed to beat Whyte.

MCLAUGHLIN took the Gowfers' third and scored, with LISTER doing likewise for Camelon.

Unfortunately, Voigt blasted Carnoustie's fourth penalty high over the top and when BALLANTYNE made no mistake the visitors were 3-2 up.

ROBERTSON scored to keep the Gowfers' hopes alive, but when CRINGEAN stuck away the Mariners' fifth the contest and Carnoustie's season were over.
