Carnousite Panmure Versus Lochee United

Carnoustie Panmure 2 Lochee United 0

Lochee kicked-off with a stiff easterly wind at their backs, but it was Carnoustie who had the first shot at goal. A long clearance upfield by Beith was collected by Steele, who ran on and fired off a shot, but this was well wide of Brown's left-hand post.

In four minutes, a great crossfield ball from Narey created another Gowfers' scoring opportunity, but Conway also shot well wide of the target.

Steele was then fouled by Thomson, but from the resultant free kick, Conway swung the ball right into 'keeper Brown's arms.

Carnoustie continued to create the better chances and in 18 minutes came the closest yet to opening their account when Abbot set up Voigt, whose shot struck the inside of Brown's right-hand post and rebounded back into play, allowing McMillan to thump the ball clear.

As play then surged to the other end, Ritchie sent in a shot, but McCafferty had no trouble making the stop.

In the next Lochee attack, McKinnon, Cargill and Hardie all combined well before Hardie crossed the ball deep, looking for Hagan, but S. Robertson got up well to head clear.

In 24 minutes, Steele picked up a pass from Conway and put the Gowfers back on the attack. Taking the ball forward, he then sent a cross flashing across the face of the goal, but Voigt just failed to get the necessary touch.

With half an hour on the watch, Abbot put in what appeared a good tackle on Leahy, but the referee thought otherwise and awarded a free kick to the visitors. Cargill floated the ball in, looking for Ritchie, but S. Robertson again got up well to head clear.

In 34 minutes, Carnoustie at last scored the goal which they had been threatening to get for some time. A Conway free kick was touched on to BEITH, who cut inside his marker and fired in a low drive, which Brown got his hands to, but could not prevent it from crossing the line.

Straight from the centre, play surged upfield and Hagan fired in a shot, looking to bring his side back on level terms, but McCafferty got up to touch the ball over the top. Hagan took the corner himself, but the ball drifted out behind on the wind without anyone else getting a touch.

The Gowfers responded by pushing forward once mor and doubled their advantage in 41 minutes. Conway made a great run up the left and sent in a deep cross to the back post where COOK slid in and fired the ball into the net off the inside of Brown's right-hand post.

Right on the half-time whistle, Carnoustie came close to adding a third after Muhsin sent Conway away on another great run down the left. Leaving the full-back for dead, he sent the ball across the face of the goal, but Brown came out to take the catch, with Steele hovering ready to cash in on any mistake.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 2 Lochee United 0

Lochee resumed with C. Robertson on in place of McKinnon and immediately set about trying to reduce the leeway with Ritchie sending in a cross looking for Hagan, but Hendry got up well to make the clearance.

Moments later, Hagan tried to link with Ritchie, but this time it was Narey who got across to clear upfield.

In 52 minutes, the Bluebells made a further change with Krobot replacing Thomson.

Lochee came close to pulling a goal back in 59 minutes when Ritchie fed Hagan, who ran forward and fired off a shot, which struck the junction of the crossbar and McCafferty's left-hand upright. The ball rebounded back into play and was cleared away by Hendry.

Cargill then tried to set up C. Robertson with a long through pass, but McCafferty rushed from his line to claim the ball before the United player could get a touch.

In 62 minutes, Abbot and Hay clashed rather inoccuously, but the referee saw things differently and booked the Gowfers' player.

Four minutes later, Narey played a great ball through to Cook, who hooked it right into the goalmouth, but Brown got up well to take the ball off Voigt's head.

In 68 minutes, Carnoustie had another half-chance to notch a third counter after a poor clearance by Brown went straight to Cook, but before he could get the ball under control, Hay stepped in to block it away.

Lochee pressure won a corner in 72 minutes when a Ritchie deep cross was headed behind by S. Robertson. Krobot's flag kick picked out Leahy, who drilled in a shot, but the ball struck Hay in the crowded goalmouth and was cleared away by Narey.

Back at the other end, the Gowfers again came close after Abbot played a good pass through to Steele, who spotted Brown off his line and tried to lob the ball over the 'keeper's head, but his effort was just too high and dropped the wrong side of the crossbar.

At this point, United made a further change with local lad Colin Watson taking over from Dorward.

In 81 minutes, Krobot was shown the yellow card after disagreeing with the referee's award of a free kick for his tackle on Conway.

Lochee kept plugging away and in 84 minutes Hardie linked well with C. Robertson, who took the ball down the left, then tried a shot, but Narey brought the ball down neatly and cleared it away upfield.

In 88 minutes, Carnoustie made their first substitution with Smith replacing Conway.

Two minutes later, S. Robertson became the second Gowfers' player to be cautioned when he kicked the ball away in an attempt to delay a United free kick.

Deep into stoppage time, Narey sent a good ball through to Cook, who made a great run up the right. He took the ball right to the bye-line then sent in a cross, but after the ball was on its way he was chopped down by McMillan, who was immediately booked for his trouble.

Cook was given some treatment, but was unable to continue and limped off to be replaced for the last few seconds by McLaughlin.

Carnoustie's reward for beating the Bluebells was a semi-final tie at Laing Park against Montrose Roselea on Tuesday 14/05/08 which they went on to win 5-2.
