Carnousite Panmure Versus Montrose Roselea

Voigt And Steele At The Double As Gowfers Go Nap

Carnoustie Panmure 5 Montrose Roselea 2

Their Super League status may still be hanging by the thinnest of threads, but Carnoustie Panmure reached their second cup final of the season with an emphatic 5-2 home victory over Montrose Roselea in a Challenge Cup semi-final tie at Laing Park on Tuesday night.

Dougie Craig and Daryn Smith were both on from the start, replacing the injured Gavin Beith and Steven Cook.

The Gowfers quickly set about erasing the memory of Saturday's disappointing cup final defeat from Forfar West End and were a goal up after just four minutes. Muhsin was sent clear on the right by Narey and his low cross into the box was met by VOIGT, who drove low past McLeod from 15 yards.

The home side continued to press and doubled their lead in eight minutes. A long through ball from Narey released VOIGT, who out-paced Maiden before rounding the advancing McLeod and stroking the ball into the empty net.

A minute later, Carnoustie were three up. Voigt this time was the provider with a through ball to STEELE, who got round the back of the Montrose defence and shot past McLeod, giving him no chance.

The Gowfers' dream start continued with a fourth goal in 14 minutes. Another great forward pass from Narey created the opening and as McLeod came off his line, STEELE lobbed the ball over the 'keeper's head into the empty net.

Roselea appeared to have no answer to the home onslaughtt, but in 18 minutes attempted to stem the tide by replacing Maiden with Rae.

A foul on Watson 25 yards out gave Montrose a chance to reduce the leeway. Christie's free kick got through the defensive wall, but McCafferty was right in line and clutched the ball safely.

The visitors were now coming more into the game and in 25 minutes Robertson fouled Watson as he was cutting into the box from the left. The referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty and after Robertson had been booked, WATSON powered the spot kick low into McCafferty's bottom left-hand corner, giving the 'keeper no chance.

Any fears of a Roselea fightback were quickly allayed as just two minutes later Carnoustie restored their four-goal advantage. Rae was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box and CONWAY duly converted from the spot for the Gowfers' fifth.

Conway almost made it six with a fierce drive from 35 yards, but McLeod managed to save the shot at the second attempt.

In 36 minutes, Roselea's Craig was booked for dissent.

Late in the first half, Muhsin came close to adding to the Gowfers tally with a powerful strike, which McLeod did well to palm over for a fruitless corner.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 5 Montrose Roselea 1

Shortly after the restart, Steele required treatment for a head knock. The player continued, but in 49 minutes had to go off after being fouled by Whyte and was replaced by McLaughlin. Before play resumed, Whyte was booked for the foul.

A poor clearance by the Carnoustie defence was punished by Roselea in 52 minutes. Longmuir quickly played the ball back into the box where the unmarked BRAND blasted a high shot past McCafferty.

The Gowfers pushed forward in response and thought they had notched a sixth when a Muhsin cross from the right picked out McLaughlin, who headed the ball over McLeod into the net, only for the 'goal' to be disallowed for offside.

In 87 minutes, McLaughlin attempted to take a quick free kick, but was obstructed by Whyte, whom he pushed out of the way. Both players were cautioned and as it was Whyte's second yellow card of the match, he was duly ordered off, reducing Roselea to 10 men for the remaining few minutes.

Montrose made a second substitution in 88 minutes, replacing Watson with Crawford.

Shortly afterwards, the referee blew for full-time and the Gowfers were through to face Dundee Violet or Kirrie Thistle in the final on a date yet to be announced.
