Final Friendly Ends In Fine Victory At Scone

Scone Thistle 3 Carnoustie Panmure 5

Carnoustie kicked-off and almost and almost opened the scoring in the first minute when a Steele cross was headed only partially clear by Barnett. Abbot sent the ball back in low and hard, but J.Kelly failed to get any real power behind his shot and Sorley saved easily.

After dominating the early play, the Gowfers deservedly took the lead in 15 minutes when VOIGT rose to head home a Steele corner from the left.

Three minutes later, it was 2-0. A mix up between Barnett and the home keeper Sorley, allowed Cook to set up J. KELLY, who tapped the ball into the empty net. Scone were seldom seen as an attacking force, but in 31 minutes a long through ball released J.Anderson, who tried his luck from 30 yards, but McCafferty had no trouble making the save.

Voigt, Scott and J.Kelly all squandered chances to add to the scoreline before in 37 minutes the Gowfers pressure was at last rewarded with a third counter. J.Kelly was sent clear by Abbot and took the ball to the right-hand edge of the box before crossing to STEELE, who headed home.

In 42 minutes, Steele limped limped off and was replaced by Cumming.

Five minutes into the second half, Scone pulled a goal back when Craig was dispossessed by substitute CALDOW, who then beat two men before thumping the ball past McCafferty into the net.

Carnoustie were stung into action by the loss of that goal and restored their three-goal lead in 55 minutes. SCOTT curled a great 25 yard free kick over the defensive wall and although Sorley got a hand to it, he was unable to prevent the ball landing in the back of the net.

With an hour on the watch, the Gowfers made it five. Voigt took a pass from Abbot and fired in a shot, which Sorley could only parry away and J.KELLY was on hand to notch his second of the night.

In 62 minutes, Carnoustie made a further change, Voigt being replaced by Collier.

This was followed by a double substitution in 66 minutes, Narey and Hall going on in place of Scott and Abbot.

As the Gowfers took their foot off the pedal in the closing stages, Scone began to come more into the game and it was no surprise when the home side reduced the leeway in 83 minutes. McCafferty failed to come off his line for a G.Anderson corner from the left and taking advantage of the mix up in the Gowfers defence. A SMITH rose to head home.

Right on the final whistle, more sloppy defending allowed Scone to score a scarcely deserved third. A corner from the left was not cleared and a through ball was picked up by CALDOW who took couple of steps before firing the ball past the helpless McCafferty.
