Honours Even In Scottish Cup Dress Rehearsal
Carnoustie Panmure 1 Tayport 1
With a strong wind at their backs, Carnoustie forced an early corner on the left, but Steele put too much weight behind his cross and the ball curled wide of the far post for a goal kick.In the Gowfers' next attack, Steele beat Gunnion on the left before firing in a cross, which was once again too strong and went out on the far side.
Moments later, Steele decided to go it alone, but his low drive from 25 yards was too direct and straight at 'keeper Currie, who saved easily.
Carnoustie again came close when a Hendry free kick from the halfway line was headed on by Collier, but Voigt was just beaten to the ball by Currie.
Narey kept the pressure on the Fifers with a fine cross into the box from the left, but Voigt was caught offside.
Tayport gradually began to come more into the game and when Bollan fouled McNaughton 25 yards out, this gifted the visitors a possible scoring opportunity. Maher's free kick cleared the defensive wall, but also eluded his team-mates and the ball went behind for a goal kick.
With the home goal again under pressure, a Kenneth cross from the left was headed for a corner by Steele, back helping his defence. Bollan then attempted to head clear from Maher's flag kick, and although Craik quickly fired the ball back in, he was just a little too hasty for Kenneth, who was flagged offside.
Craik had a chance to make amends when he got on the end of a McNaughton cross into the box, but the ex-Gowfer squandered the opportunity by putting his header straight to McCafferty.
Carnoustie got back up the park and forced a corner on the left, but Steele's cross was just a little too strong for Robertson, who narrowly failed to get a touch before the ball was cleared away by G. Paterson.
As the Gowfers continued to press, McNaughton was booked for a foul on Voigt 40 yards out. Hendry's free kick picked out Abbot, whose fierce drive was turned for a corner by Currie. Steele's cross from the left was met by VOIGT, who headed strongly past Currie from the corner of the six yard box to give the home side a deserved lead in 37 minutes.
Shortly afterwards, it was almost 2-0 when a great through ball from Steele carved open the Tayport defence, but Currie came out bravely to save at the feet of the inrushing Collier.
Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 1 Tayport 0
Tayport resumed after the break with K. Kelly on in place of Livie. The Fifers now had wind advantage and were first to show when a long throw-in by Morris from the right put Carnoustie under pressure before Bollan eventually managed to force the ball clear.
Another long throw by Morris was chased by Craik, but McCafferty got there first to nick the ball off the Tayport man's toes.
Craik continued to cause problems for the Gowfers' defence, but after breaking clear on the left, he shot straight at McCafferty, who had no trouble making the save.
Shortly afterwards, the visitors were through again, but K. Kelly's low driven cross across the six yard box narrowly eluded Craik and went out behind for a goal kick.
Tayport's pressure was rewarded with a rather fortunate equaliser in 56 minutes. Along ball forward out of the visitors' defence released CRAIK, whose speculative 40 yard drive took an awkward bobble at a vital moment and beat McCafferty low to his right-hand corner.
The Fifers now went in search of further goals and a Maher deep cross from the right had McCafferty under pressure, but the 'keeper managed to clutch it safely under the crossbar.
As the Gowfers gradually battled their way back up the park, a fine cross from the left by Steele picked out 'new boy' Donnachie, whose header was touched round the post by Currie for a corner. Bollan got his head to Steele's cross, but his effort lacked direction and flew wide of the post.
Tayport made a second substitution in 70 minutes, Juskowiak replacing Urquhart. Two minutes later, Carnoustie also made a change, J. Kelly going on for Collier. In 76 minutes, Abbot was booked for dissent, and just a minute later, Craik also saw yellow after deliberately handling the ball while trying to control a through pass from Juskowiak.
Tayport made their third and final change in 78 minutes with Kenneth being replaced by Fraser.
Carnoustie came close to regaining the lead when Abbot made a good run along the bye-line and slipped the ball to J. Kelly, whose shot was well saved by Currie at his left-hand post.
Fraser was then put through by Morris for Tayport, but with only McCafferty to beat, he squandered the opportunity by lobbing over from 25 yards.
In the dying seconds, Tayport forced four corners in quick succession, but the Gowfers defence stood their ground and as the ball was eventually cleared away up the park, the referee blew for full-time and both teams had to settle for a point a-piece.
