Carnoustie Panmure 2 Forfar West End 2

West End attacked from the kick-off and forced an early corner on the right, but Pirie's cross was cleared by Voigt, back helping his defence.,p> As the visitors continued to have the better of the opening exchanges, a long throw-in by Henderson from the left threatened to cause problems for the Carnoustie defence, but Bonella was adjudged to have fouled Camplbell in attempting to get to the ball.

Shortly afterwards the Gowfers' rearguard again found themselves on the back-foot, but Lawson's corner from the left was cleared by Campbell at the far post.

Carnoustie finally got into the game and tested the West End defence with a Steele corner from the left, which was followed by a goalmouth scramble before the ball was eventually booted clear.

West End then mounted a quick counter-attack up the right and Pirie's early cross into the box found MUCKERSIE, who slid the ball home from eight yards to put the visitors ahead with only eight minutes on the watch.

In the first home attack after conceding the goal, Steele came close to putting Carnoustie back on level terms with a fierce volley from a Cumming cross, but the ball struck the top of the crossbar and went over.

Next minute, West End had the ball in the net again, this time following a Sime low drive from outside the box. Fortunately for the Gowfers, however, the ball was flicked past McCafferty by Bonella, who had been in an offside position and the "goal" was disallowed.

Lifted by that let-off, Carnoustie pushed forward once more through Cumming on the right. His low cross was met at the near post by SMITH, who coolly flicked the ball past Vanderdeyl for the equaliser in 11 minutes.

The home side were now more in the game and almost took the lead when a Steele cross from the right picked out Campbell, who headed narrowly past from 10 yards.

In 15 minutes, Smith went down injured with a leg knock, but was able to resume after treatment.

West End had a chance to regain the lead when a McKenzie long throw from the right found Lawson in space at the edge of the home box, but his shot was too direct and went straight to McCafferty.

Back came Carnoustie and Cumming tried his luck with a 25 yard drive, which flashed just wide of Vanderdyl's right-hand post.

Shortly afterwards, Cumming was again sent clear on the right, this time by Cook. He beat Henderson then appeared to be fouled inside the box by Brown, but the loud penalty clams went unheeded by the referee.

In 25 minutes, Cumming was booked for dissent.

Pirie almost put West End back in the driving seat with a fierce 20 yard drive, but McCafferty got down well and held the ball at the second attempt.

Play then became bogged down in midfield for a time, but burst back to life when some neat inter-passing between Kelly and Abbot created an opening for Steele, who shot past from the left-hand edge of the box.

At the other end, McKenzie came close to putting Forfar back in front when he fired a long-range effort just wide of McCafferty's right-hand post.

Muckersie and Pirie then combined well at the right-hand corner of the box, but the opportunity was wasted when Pirie shot wildly past the post.

Kelly Scoring From Free Kick In 44 minutes, Gibb was booked for a foul on Voigt 25 yards out. From the resultant free kick, KELLY curled the ball over the defensive wall and into the roof of the net to give the Gowfers the interval lead.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 2 Forfar West End 1

The second half started with a booking for West End's Henderson after a foul on Cumming.

Carnoustie saw their slender lead disappear in 51 minutes when Muckersie laid the ball across the edge of the box to SIME, who bulleted a shot into the top right-hand corner of the net, giving McCafferty no chance.

West End now had their tails up and applied further pressure to the home goal, forcing a corner on the right, but Pirie's cross was headed clear by Campbell.

Sime then tried his luck from distance, but put his effort narrowly past McCafferty's right-hand post.

In 64 minutes, Steele tangled with Bonella out near the touchline and received his marching orders after allegedly aiming a kick at the ex-Gowfer.

Despite being a man down, Carnoustie kept plugging away and Vanderdyl did well to hold a deep cross from Cumming just under his crossbar.

West End made a double substitution in 74 minutes, Bonella and Muckersie being replaced by Brand and McConnachie.

Two minutes later, the visitors made a third and final change with Roberts taking over from Lawson.

McKenzie was yellow-carded in 77 minutes for a foul on Kelly.

In 80 minutes, West End were also reduced to 10 men when former Carnoustie favourite Ralph Brand, who had only been on the park 6 minutes, was shown a straight red for an elbowing offence on Campbell.

During the stoppage in play, Carnoustie made their first change, Muhsin replacing Scott.

Deperate for all thre points, the Gowfers were now going for goal at every opportunity and an Abbot 25 yard drive flashed narrowly over.

More fresh legs were introduced in 85 minutes when Collier took over from Smith, but still Carnoustie battled in vain for a winning counter.

Voigt dashed clear on the left, and fired in a good cross, but the ball only just eluded Cumming's head and went out for a goal kick.

Moments later, a Cumming drive from 30 yards whistled only inches wide of Vanderdyl's left-hand upright.

Collier then had a shot blocked behind by McKenzie, but Campbell headed narrowly over from Muhsin's flag kick and the Gowfers had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
