Arbroath SC Versus Carnousite Panmure

GOWFERS' SEASON ENDS ON A HIGH WITH CURRIE CUP WIN

Arbroath SC 1 Carnoustie Panmure 4

Arbroath S.C. played the ball up the right from the kick-off with Sievwright trying to find Atkinson, but put too much weight behind it and the ball ran out for a throw-in to the Gowfers. From Beith's throw, Voigt tried to find Reilly, but Owbridge stepped in to thump the ball clear.

Next minute, Hunter fed Reilly, who fired off a shot, but put the ball narrowly past Logie's right-hand post.

In six minutes, Sturrock dispossessed Hendry and played the ball through to Atkinson, who drilled in a low shot. Jamieson, under pressure from several players, made the stop, but failed to hold the ball and SIEVWRIGHT was on hand to knock it into the net, putting ASC ahead.

Sporting Club had a half-chance to add to their tally in 12 minutes when Atkinson sent in a good cross to Sievwright, who powered in a header, but Jamieson had no trouble making the save.

In 14 minutes, the Gowfers were dealt a blow when Robertson was spotted lying in the ASC box while play was at the other end. Play was stopped and he was rolled off the park.

Moments later, Voigt sent Conway on another good run. He cut inside and fired off a shot, but Logie brought off a fine save, turning the ball behind for a corner.

Before the flag kick could be taken, the Gowfers, who had been playing with 10 men for around three minutes, were forced to make a substitution. Robertson being unable to resume, his place was taken by Collier.

In 21 minutes, Carnoustie levelled the tie when Beith received the ball from a Conway throw-in and found MUHSIN at the edge of the box. Logie rushed out to close him down, but he dinked the ball over the 'keeper's head into the empty net.

In 34 minutes, Conway made another good run on the left, then skipped past C. Sturrock, who brought him down, but the referee saw things differently and booked the Gowfers' player for diving.

Carnoustie continued to press and in 39 minutes a Reilly shot was blocked out to Muhsin, whose fierce drive produced a brilliant save from Logie, who did well to turn the ball round his left-hand post for a corner.

Reilly's flag kick to the far post was headed back across the face of the goal by Collier. Campbell then laid the ball off to VOIGT, who smashed it home from eight yards and the Gowfers were ahead.

Next minute, Carnoustie almost added a third when Hendry sent in a rocket shot, but Logie brought off another fantastic save to keep it at two.

Right on the half-time whistle ASC came close to equalising when Sievwright cut inside from the left and fired off a shot, but put the ball into the side-netting and the Gowfers' support could breathe again.

Half Time : Arbroath SC 1 Carnoustie Panmure 2

Four minutes after the restart, Sievwright made a run into the Carnoustie box and went down when tackled by Collier, but the referee waved play on amidst shouts for a penalty from the Arbroath contingent.

In 53 minutes, Reilly drilled in a cross low and hard to Voigt, who rammed the ball into the net, but the referee's assistant ruled that he was offside and the 'goal' was chalked-off.

In 68 minutes, Voigt was fouled by Martin 30 yards out. Although Conway's free kick cleared the defensive wall, Logie had no trouble plucking the ball out of the air. The Gowfers again came close in 75 minutes when a Conway corner picked out Campbell, who sent the ball just inches wide of the right-hand post, with the 'keeper beaten.

In 84 minutes, the Gowfers' efforts were eventually rewarded with a third counter when a Conway corner picked out VOIGT, who headed home from two yards.

Two minutes into stoppage time, Conway crossed the ball low and hard to Muhsin, whose shot came back off the left-hand post. Conway was first to the loose ball and crossed it back in.

This time, MUHSIN got his head to the cross and although Logie got a hand to the ball he failed to prevent it crossing the line. ASC protested that the ball hadn't completely crossed the line, but the referee's assistant ruled otherwise and the Gowfers had sealed their victory with a fourth.
