Arniston Rangers Versus Carnousite Panmure

GOWFERS LOSE LEAD AND ARE DEFEATED

Arniston Rangers 2 Carnoustie Panmure 1

Carnoustie kicked off, facing a strong south-westerly wind, and Hunter played a long ball forward for Voigt to chase, but Baillie rushed from his line to claim it just in front of him.

Scoring opportunities were few and far between, but in 15 minutes, Carnoustie again came close to taking the lead after a Conway long throw into the home box was only partially cleared by Cummison. The ball dropped out to Smith, who fired in a good shot, but Baillie brought off a great save to keep the score-sheet blank.

Arniston's Martin took a kick and not only sent the ball high over the bar, but right out of the ground as well. Just a minute later, the replacement ball was also sent over the boundary wall when Martin linked with Morris, whose effort was high, wide and far from handsome.

In 24 minutes, Conway made a good run up the Carnoustie left and won a corner when Cummison stuck out a foot to divert his attempted cross out behind. Reilly's header from Conway's flag kick was blocked away by Baillie, but the ball fell to COLLIER, who knocked it home from two yards.

The strong wind was continuing to cause problems and in 34 minutes it was Voigt's turn to send the ball out of the ground when he first-timed a Conway corner high over the bar.

Shand unleashed a fierce drive, but this flew high over the bar and out of the ground.

Arniston's pressure was eventually rewarded when a long, wind-assisted clearance by 'keeper Baillie carried right into the Carnoustie box. Hendry got on the end of it, but his clearance was a poor one, allowing Martin to play the ball through to MORRIS, who volleyed the equaliser into the top corner of the net, giving McCafferty no chance.

Half Time : Arniston Rangers 1 Carnoustie Panmure 1

In 61 minutes, a wind-assisted McCafferty clearance carried deep into the home half. Voigt knocked the ball through to Conway, who fired it past Baillie, but the Gowfers' celebrations turned to despair when the referee chalked the 'goal' off in what appeared a rather dubious offside decision.

Baillie took the resultant free kick and as play surged to the other end, Martin fired in a low shot, which was blocked behind for a corner on the right. Martin's flag kick was punched away by McCafferty and carried out over the touchline for a throw-in. Moriarty's long throw found MARTIN totally unmarked just inside the edge of the box and he drilled a low shot past McCafferty to put the home side ahead.

Right on the final whistle, Carnoustie had one last chance to salvage a point after Voigt was fouled by Laird 30 yards out. Conway got the ball over the wall, but the giant 'keeper rose to take it cleanly right in the postage stamp corner.
