Blairgowrie had seldom been seen as an attacking force in the opening stages, but in 12 minutes Duigan sent in a deep cross, which Thompson headed only partially clear. Hall moved to collect the loose ball, but in so doing conceded a foul. Brash sent the ball deep into the Gowfers' box, but again it was Thompson who got up well to head clear.Hunter was fouled by Brash on the halfway line in 21 minutes. Cook's free kick picked out Thompson, but he headed the ball straight at O'Brian, who had no trouble making the save.
With half-an-hour gone, Carnoustie came their closest yet to opening the scoring after Hunter was pushed in the back by Robertson. Hall's quickly taken free kick caught everyone unawares, but the ball struck O'Brian's left-hand post and was cleared away by Ferguson.
Play then switched quickly to the other end where Blairgowrie came close to going ahead in a frantic goalmouth scramble when Duigan just failed to get a touch before Smith cleared the ball away.
Carnoustie paid the penalty for their missed chances in 39 minutes when a Farquharson cross was met by CRUICKSHANK, who rose unchallenged to head past McCafferty from six yards. In 42 minutes, the Gowfers had an early opportunity to get back on level terms when Reilly was brought down by Brash just outside the box.
Smith's curling free kick picked out Thompson, but he again put his header straight to the 'keeper. and the chance was lost.

Before the second half kicked off, Carnoustie made a couple of changes with Hall and Clark being replaced by Hendry and Conway.Carnoustie continued to press and eventually drew level in 61 minutes when Muhsin took the ball down the right and sent in a cross to VOIGT, who knocked it home from six yards.
In 70 minutes, the Gowfers passed up a chance to go in front following a Conway long throw-in from out on the left. Cook tried to get a touch, but missed it and the ball came through to Voigt who, perhaps caught unawares, mis-hit his shot past O'Brian's left-hand upright.
In 79 minutes, Carnoustie had a scare when the ball was played through to Cruickshank who looked well offside, but was allowed to run on and fire off a shot. McCafferty, however, was able to make the save much to the Gowfers' relief.
