Broughty Athletic Versus Carnousite Panmure

GOWFERS EDGE FED IN CURRIE CUP DERBY GAME

Broughty Athletic 1 Carnoustie Panmure 1

Carnoustie Won 5-4 On Penalties

Almost straight from the kick-off, Carnoustie had an early chance when Conway got on the end of a Hall cross, but put his attempt at goal over the top.

Next it was Broughty's turn to come close after Perera was fouled by Collier 40 yards out. R. Smith's free kick was palmed away by Jamieson, but only as far as Craik, who fired over the bar.

Shortly afterwards, the Fed had another half-chance when R. Smith fed Russell, but Jamieson came smartly off his line to save at the feet of the on-rushing player.

After being on the receiving end for a time, Carnoustie began to push forward once more and won a free kick when Clark was fouled by Myles out on the left. Conway launched the free kick deep into the box and picked out D. Smith, who powered in a header, but 'keeper Cormack, at full stretch, did well to touch the ball round the post for a fruitless corner.

Just on half-time, Conway tried his luck from distance with a 35 yard free kick. His effort cleared the defensive wall, but was too direct and went straight through to Cormack in the home goal.

With just four minutes gone in the second half, slack play by the Carnoustie defence proved costly. Campbell's attempt to head clear was weak and fell to CRAIK, who shot low into Jamieson's bottom left-hand corner.

Broughty should have gone two up when Perera was put clean through on a pass from Russell, but with only the 'keeper to beat, he fired wildly over.

In the visitors' next attack, a Voigt lay-off set up a chance for Masson, who should have levelled the tie but shot just wide from a good position.

Carnoustie were now doing most of the pressing and scored a deserved equaliser in 75 minutes. Reilly had a shot blocked by the 'keeper and in the ensuing goalmouth scramble several players attempted to hit the back of the net before CLARK eventually knocked the ball home from six yards.

Munn was booked for dissent in 80 minutes and when the same player picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Clark just seven minutes later, Broughty were reduced to 10 men for the closing stages.

Allan was introduced to the fray in 89 minutes in place of Morrison, but the Fed remained on the back foot and the Gowfers almost snatched victory right at the death when a Masson header from a Conway cross struck the base of the post and rebounded clear to bring an end to the 90 minutes.

So it was on to penalties and MACLEOD got Broughty off to a good start, as did CONWAY for Carnoustie.

R. SMITH scored the Fed's second and REILLY equalised.

CRAIK put the homesters back in front, but SCOTTlevelled the tie once more.

Next up for the Fed was ALLAN, who duly scored, as did MASSON from Carnoustie's fourth.

Broughty's fifth kick was taken by Russell, but this time Jamieson threw himself to his right and made a great save. CAMPBELL then stepped up and although Cormack got a hand to the ball he couldn't prevent it hitting the back of the net and Carnoustie were through to the semi-finals.
