Carnousite Panmure Versus Clydebank

Scottish Cup 5th Round Replay

Carnoustie Panmure 1 Clydebank 1 (Clydebank Won 4-3 On Penalties)

Following a 3-3 draw in their first meeting at Holm Park, Yoker, the previous week, Carnoustie Panmure and Clydebank locked horns again in a Citylink Scottish Junior Cup fifth round replay at Laing Park on Saturday.

Clydebank got the game under way and were first to show through Scobie on the right. His cross, however, came to nothing as Masson was adjudged to have been fouled by Rushford and a free kick was awarded to the Gowfers.

In 14 minutes, Carnoustie were forced to make a change when Muhsin had to go off suffering from a dead leg and was replaced by Cumming.

The Gowfers began to pile on the pressure and a great ball into the box from Clark found Voigt, whose shot was blocked for a corner by Lynn.

Reilly got up well to Conway's cross, but his header was touched over the bar by Gonet and a further two corners followed in quick succession before the ball was eventually cleared by the Bankies' defence. After being pegged back in their own half for a spell, Clydebank began to push forward once more and the Gowfers had a slight scare when a McInnes cross from the right was headed narrowly over by Anderson.

Encouraged by that near miss, the Bankies continued to press and a McInnes 40 yard free kick was met by Hailstones, who shot just wide.

Carnoustie kept plugging away and eventually took the lead a minute from half-time. Conway got down the right and fired a low ball across the box to Reilly, whose first-time drive was touched home by VOIGT from close-in to send the Gowfers in a goal up at the interval.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 1 Clydebank 0

Clydebank were again first to show after the break, forcing an early corner on the right, but Lynn's cross was punched clear by McCafferty.

The visitors were still struggling to get the better of the Gowfers' defence and made a double substitution in 57 minutes, replacing Jordan and Hailstones with Hobbs and Fisher.

In 64 minutes, Hobbs made his presence felt when he chased a loose ball into the box and appeared to be pulled back by Clark. Down he went, winning Bankies a penalty and earning a straight red card for Clark, who had been the last man.

As he had done the previous week, LYNN stepped forward and drove the spot kick into the corner of the net, giving McCafferty no chance.

Two minutes later, Conway went off and was replaced by D. Smith.

For the first time in the match, Carnoustie found themselves under pressure and in 69 minutes Masson was booked for a foul on Hobbs.

In 80 minutes, J. Jack was booked for a foul on Cook.

A minute later, the Gowfers' third and final substitution saw Campbell introduced to the fray in place of Hall.

Clydebank also made a third change in 82 minutes with A. Jack replacing Scobie.

In 88 minutes, Masson fouled Anderson in the middle of the park and was shown a second yellow card, followed by the red, reducing the Gowfers to nine men for the second successive game.

Before play restarted, Reilly was booked for dissent, as was Voigt a minute later.

Shortly afterwards, the referee signalled the end of the regulation 90 minutes and it was on to penalties to settle the issue.

Full Time : Carnoustie Panmure 1 Clydebank 1

Carnoustie went first and REILLY made no mistake.

Lynn was first up for Clydebank, but, throwing himself to his left, McCafferty made a great save to give the Gowfers an early advantage.

D. SMITH took Carnoustie's second and again made no mistake, as did RUSHFORD for the visitors.

Voigt failed to beat Gonet with Carnoustie's third and when J. JACK netted for Clydebank it was back to all square.

CAMPBELL then slotted away the Gowfers' fourth, as did ANDERSON for the Bankies.

Unfortunately, Robertson sent Carnoustie's fifth over the bar and when HOBBS slammed his kick home, the Gowfers' Scottish Cup campaign was over for another year.
