BLUEBELLS WITHER UNDER CARNOUSTIE PRESSURE
Dundonald Bluebell 2 Carnoustie Panmure 3
Carnoustie kicked-off on a very heavy pitch and played the ball down the left towards Conway, but Balfour got there first and touched it out for a throw.Conway played a free kick short to Clark, who took a step, then fired in a great shot which Connor got up well to touch over the bar. Again Conway took the kick and this time found J. Thompson, who tried a shot.
The ball was blocked away and fell to McLAUGHLIN, who drilled it home with only two minutes played.
Dundonald had a chance to get back on level terms after Hall fouled King on the half-way line in nine minutes. G. Hunter's free kick carried deep into the Gowfers' box where Clark attempted to clear. The ball, however, dropped out to Linton, whose 25-yard drive flashed narrowly past McCafferty's right-hand post.
Two minutes later, Carnoustie were dealt a blow when J. Thompson went down. He was taken to hospital in Dunfermline with a suspected broken ankle.
Meanwhile, play resumed with Robertson on in his place.
Carnoustie pushed forward and doubled their advantage in 32 minutes when Hall played a great pass to VOIGT. He outstripped the defence and rounded the 'keeper before firing the ball into the empty net.
Shortly afterwards, Dundonald had a chance to reduce the leeway when King linked with Linton, who fired off a shot, but blasted the ball high over the top.
As the watch clicked into stoppage time, the Gowfers went three up after McLaughlin slipped a great pass through the Bluebell defence to VOIGT, who again rounded the advancing 'keeper before rolling the ball into the empty net in a carbon copy of his first goal.
Half Time : Dundonald Bluebell 0 Carnoustie Panmure 3
M. Thompson set the ball rolling and the homesters surged forward, winning an early corner when McCafferty parried Cassells' long-range strike round his right-hand post. Linton's flag kick found Westwater, who took a couple of steps before firing a shot from the edge of the box, but blasted it high over the bar.The referee brought howls of protest from the Gowfers' support after Cook was fouled by Bain, but the official saw things differently and awarded a free kick to Dundonald. Cassells sent the ball into the visitors' goalmouth, but Collier headed clear.
In 65 minutes, Muhsin slipped just outside the box on the greasy surface and Cassells fell over him. Incredibly, the referee ran forward pointing to the spot, once more incurring the wrath of the sizeable travelling support.
Even the home players were amazed at the decision, but gratefully accepted it and Caithness placed the ball on the spot.
However, before the kick could be taken, the referee showed both Hall and Greig the yellow card, apparently for pushing each other.
CAITHNESS was then allowed to take the kick and drove the ball low into the corner of the net.
In 74 minutes, Dundonald came close to snatching a second when a Linton long throw found M. Thompson who tried a shot, but McCafferty had no trouble making the save.
Dundonald were awarded a second penalty eight minutes from the end after the ball was played in towards the Gowfers' box and Collier stuck out a hand.
The referee judged that the offence had taken place inside the line and once more pointed to the spot. Again CAITHNESS took the kick and as before dispatched it low into the net past the despairing McCafferty.
Right on the final whistle, the Gowfers had yet another chance when Clark played a good pass through towards Reilly, but Connor rushed from his line to claim the ball just in front of him.
