Carnousite Panmure Versus Dundonald Bluebell

BEST WIN OF THE SEASON SEES GOWFERS FINISH THIRD

Carnoustie Panmure 5 Dundonald Bluebell

FOLLOWING Ian Flaherty's resignation on Thursday as Carnoustie Panmure manager, senior players Gavin Beith and Jonnie Thompson made the team selection for the Gowfers' final league match of the season against Dundonald Bluebell at Laing Park on Saturday.

Bluebell kicked-off, but Carnoustie took control almost immediately. Conway got down the right and crossed low and hard to REILLY, who beat Connolly from eight yards, putting the Gowfers ahead with just a minute gone.

Soon afterwards, it was almost two when a snap shot by Clark from the edge of the box flew narrowly over.

Dundonald gradually began to come more into the game and a through ball by Morgan released Greig into the box, but Jamieson came smartly off his line to save bravely at the feet of the inrushing player.

Dundonald's Connolly makes a valiant effort to save, but the ball seems to gather pace as it passes him into the goal, courtesy of Clark, out of picture.

Voigt then got on the end of a Conway cross and unleashed a 30 yard drive, which was well-saved by Connolly at his right-hand post.

In 34 minutes, Voigt chased a long through ball from Clark and was brought down at the edge of the box by G. Hunter, who was shown a straight red card, reducing Dundonald to 10 men.

Conway's free kick was blocked for a corner on the left. Again, Conway took the kick and found A. Campbell, whose shot was cleared off the line by Balfour.

Four minutes later, Carnoustie doubled their lead. Conway made a good run up the left and put in a low cross to Voigt, whose shot was parried by Connolly, but CLARK, lurking in the six yard box, smashed the ball home, giving the 'keeper no chance.

The Gowfers had their tails up again and almost made it three before the interval, but Conway's 35 yard drive was well held.

Bluebell resumed with Hodge on for Bissett and came close to pulling a goal back when a long-range effort from substitute Hodge skimmed past Jamieson's right-hand post.

Despite that near miss, the Gowfers continued to do most of the attacking and it was almost three when good play by Hall set-up Voigt, whose fierce drive from the left-hand edge of the box was well held by the Bluebell 'keeper.

In 64 minutes the Gowfers put the game beyond Bluebell by notching a third. A corner by Clark from the right was met at the near post by REILLY, who headed high into the roof of the net.

Carnoustie remained well on top and in 86 minutes Voigt laid the ball across the box to McLAUGHLIN, who shot home from 10 yards, making amends for two earlier misses.

Right on the final whistle, a Voigt header from a Muhsin cross was parried by the 'keeper. The loose ball broke to VOIGT, who fired home from two yards to complete the Gowfers' nap hand.

This comprehensive victory sees Carnoustie end the season third top of the Buktateamwear.com East Premier League, albeit 16 points adrift of champions Musselburgh Athletic and runners-up Newtongrange Star, Musselburgh taking the title on goal difference.
