GOWFERS FAIL AT FINAL HURDLE
Dunipace 4 Carnoustie Panmure 0
Having beaten Bo'ness United the previous day, Carnoustie Panmure returned to Westfield Park, Denny, on Sunday to meet the host club Dunipace in the final of the tournament. With Gavin Beith unavailable due to work commitments, Jim Scott took over the left-back berth. Also on from the start were Steven Narey, Jim Collier and Kevin Steele. Garry McLauchlin, Steven Cook and Aaron Conway all dropped to the bench where they were joined by another trialist goalkeeper.
With five minutes gone, Carnoustie had a half-chance to take the lead when a Hunter cross picked out Collier, who headed over from 10 yards.
The Gowfers were rocked in 23 minutes when Gairney released WRIGHT, who strode forward and dispatched the ball low into the corner of the net, giving Newman no chance.
The home side were now doing most of the attacking and Rodger tried a long-range shot, but the 'keeper held it safely.
In 33 minutes, Dunipace doubled their advantage when the Gowfers' defence were again caught napping and Gairney was allowed to pick out RODGER, who fired home with the 'keeper again having no chance.
'Pace were forced to make a change in 40 minutes after Rodger went down in a tackle from Thompson and had to be carried off. Nairn came on as substitute and before play restarted Thompson was yellow-carded.
Right on the half-time whistle, Hunter was adjudged to have fouled McPhail 25 yards out. Orr took the free kick, but sent the ball high over the top.
Half Time : Dunipace 2 Carnoustie Panmure 0
In 49 minutes, Cullen was shown the yellow card for a bad foul on Hall, then moments later, Hall was also cautioned, this for comments made to the referee.Hall tried to get Carnoustie going with a good ball down the line to Conway, who took it forward before sending in a good cross towards Collier, but Strachan rushed from his line and took the catch cleanly.
In 62 minutes, the home side almost snatched a third counter when Moffat got on the end of a McPhail free kick, but flashed his header just wide.
Carnoustie came close to pulling a goal back in 69 minutes when Voigt got on the end of a Cook free kick, but headed narrowly past.
A minute later, a long clearance by the home defence found Moffat wide on the left. Spotting Newman off his line, he attempted to chip the 'keeper and just as the ball appeared to be drifting wide of the left-hand post, PINCOMBE eluded Scott and fired it into the back of the net to put Dunipace three ahead.
Worse was to follow just 60 seconds later when a corner was deflected into his own net by SCOTT for the homesters' fourth.
The remainder of the game was played out mainly in midfield although right at the death Hunter linked well with Conway, who picked out Voigt with a great cross, but the striker was caught offside and the Gowfers were denied the chance of even a consolation counter.
