Carnousite Panmure Versus Fauldhouse United

Carnoustie Panmure 1 Fauldhouse United 1

Fauldhouse, who were last season's South Division champions, attacked from the kick-off, but Meechan's fine through ball found McGeachie in an offside position.

Play switched quickly to the other end where a Clark drive from the right-hand corner of the box was touched behind by 'keeper Maley. Conway took the flag kick short to Clark, who volleyed a shot just wide of Maley's right-hand post.

Conway then got his head to a D. Smith cross from the right, but his effort was partially blocked and dropped into the 'keeper's arms.

Carnoustie were doing most of the pressing at this stage and Clark should have opened the scoring after being released by Thompson, but from just outside the box, he shot straight at the 'keeper, who saved easily.

Shortly afterwards, Conway tried his luck from distance and was just wide of Maley's left-hand post.

The first yellow card of the afternoon was shown in 21 minutes when Beith was booked for a foul on I. Smith.

The Gowfers then won a corner on the right, but Conway's cross was headed clear by Cooper.

Meechan got up the right for Fauldhouse and put in a good cross, but McGeachie's header went straight to Gourlay's hands.

The visitors were now coming more into the game and Meechan saw a low 25 yard drive turned past by Gourlay at the base of the post. Meechan took the resultant corner himself, but his cross was well held by Gourlay just under the crossbar.

In 36 minutes, Carnoustie took the lead following a Clark corner from the left. Collier laid the ball back to D. SMITH, who fired a low drive past Maley from 15 yards.

Finding themselves a goal down, Fauldhouse stepped up a gear in response and the Gowfers had a slight scare when Connelly, who looked suspiciously offside, was allowed to go on, but his cross into the box was weak and easily gathered by Gourlay.

Cook then fouled I. Smith just outside the box, but although McLenaghan's free kick got over the defensive wall, it was just too high and also cleared the crossbar.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 1 Fauldhouse United 0

The second half began badly for Carnoustie when Hendry was booked for dangerous play within a minute of the restart.

As in the opening period, it was the Gowfers who did most of the early pressing and Conway set up a half-chance when he broke clear on the left, but his cross was well held by Maley, under pressure from Collier.

A foul by Caputa on Conway gave Carnoustie a free kick 35 yards out on the left. Conway got his shot on target and Maley did well to turn the ball round his right-hand post for a corner. Hendry was first to Conway's deep flag kick and played it back across the box to D. Smith, who attempted to flick the ball home from close-in, but was thwarted by a goal-line clearance from Cunningham.

On the hour mark, a Cunningham free kick from the halfway line was headed on by Cooper, but Gourlay got there first and held the ball easily.

Fauldhouse continued to press and a McGeachie close-in shot was well saved by Gourlay at his left-hand upright.

Cunningham then fed McGeachie, whose fierce shot was palmed on to the post by Gourlay and behind for a fruitless corner, which was cleared away by Cook.

It was all the visitors at this stage and they again came close when Graham had a shot blocked for a corner on the right, but Connelly's cross was claimed by Gourlay, who again did well to get above everyone and clutch the ball safely.

Pinned back in their own half for long spells, Carnoustie were now only seen on the occasional breakaway and in one such move D. Smith should have doubled the Gowfers' lead after being put through on goal by Clark, but with only the 'keeper to beat, he fired high over the bar.

Shortly afterwards, substitute McLauchlin also got clean through on goal, but Maley got a hand to his low shot and turned it round the post. Clark's corner was punched clear by the 'keeper and yet another chance had been squandered.

Back at the other end, Fauldhouse continued to press for an equaliser and were unlucky not to draw level when a Connelly cross picked out the unmarked Hutcheson, who headed past from 10 yards.

In 84 minutes, Thompson collected Carnoustie's third yellow card of the match when he was booked for a foul on Hutcheson. McLenaghan's free kick was headed goalwards by Meechan, but turned for a corner by Gourlay.

Cunningham was booked for dissent in 87 minutes, and just a minute later Scott was yellow-carded for wasting time at a free kick.

Fauldhouse refused to give up and were eventually rewarded three minutes into stoppage time when Beith brought down Hutcheson inside the box and from the resultant spot kick GRAHAM fired the ball low past Gourlay into his bottom left-hand corner to give the visitors a deserved share of the points.
