Carnousite Panmure Versus Girvan

NINE-MAN GOWFERS BEAT FIESTY GIRVAN & ARE THROUGH TO LAST 16

Carnoustie Panmure 1 Girvan 0

Carnoustie kicked-off with a strong wind in their favour and had an early chance from a McLaughlin lay-off, but Smith shot wide from the edge of the box.

The visitors also had an early opportunity to open their account when McVittie had a shot blocked by Smith and the ball broke to Biggart, whose effort flashed narrowly past.

Another chance went a-begging for the homesters when Conway fired in a corner from the left. Smith got on the end of the cross and hooked the ball goalwards, but his effort was straight at the 'keeper, who had no trouble making the save.

Having been on the receiving end for a spell, Girvan then pushed forward in response and forced two corners in quick succession before the ball was eventually cleared away by Smith.

Carnoustie's pressure was eventually rewarded when they opened the scoring in 31 minutes. Holden was booked for a foul on Muhsin out on the right. Conway's free kick was touched on by Smith to VOIGT, who smashed the ball home from eight yards.

Shortly afterwards, it was almost 2-0 when a through pass from Conway set up Voigt, who turned and shot, but put the ball just wide.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 1 Girvan 0

Girvan resumed after the break with all guns blazing and immediately put the 10-man Gowfers under pressure.

Girvan have an advantage, but the tie went Carnoustie's way.

The visitors won a corner on the right and although Murphy's cross was headed away by Voigt, back helping his defence, the ball was driven back in by D. Mitchell, forcing McCafferty to make a fine save.

A few minutes later, McCafferty was in action again, tipping a Moffat 25-yard drive over for a corner. K. Mitchell's inswinging flag kick was then punched clear by the Gowfers' 'keeper, who was now the busiest man on the park.

Carnoustie were under the cosh, but finally managed to break out of defence and won a free kick midway inside the visitors' half. Conway's cross to the back post was headed back across goal by Hunter, but Collier rather rushed his shot and hooked the ball over the crossbar.

A tough shift for Carnoustie became even tougher in 79 minutes when they were reduced to just nine men after Hunter saw 'red' for a foul on Biggart.

With two extra players and the wind at their backs, Girvan threw everything at Carnoustie in the closing stages, but to no avail.
