Luncarty Versus Carnousite Panmure

GOWFERS GO NAP IN LAST PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY

Luncarty 0 Carnoustie Panmure 5

On Sunday, Carnoustie Panmure travelled up to Brownlands Park, Luncarty, for their sixth and final pre-season friendly before the start of the season proper tomorrow (Saturday).

With Jonnie Thompson and Garry McLauchlin both working, Gavin Beith on holiday, Steven Cook and John McCafferty both carrying injuries, and Scott Robertson in hospital, the Gowfers were even more short-handed than of late and in fact did not have a single substitute available to put on the bench.

On the plus side, Daryn Smith and Robert Hendry were back from holiday and both played the full game.

Within seconds of the kick-off, Carnoustie had a scare when Hunter was short with a passback and Trialist had to rush from his line to scramble the ball away under pressure from Simpson. The ball was quickly played back into the Gowfers' box and Dudek tried a shot, but sent it well wide of the 'keeper's right-hand post.

In six minutes, Carnoustie came very close to going in front when a Conway corner picked out Collier, whose header was cleared off the line by Barnet. The ball came back out to Collier, but this time he put it straight to the 'keeper, who clutched it safely.

The Gowfers again came close from another Conway corner in 19 minutes, Smith turned smartly at the edge of the box and hooked the ball towards Muhsin, whose shot was just off target, flashing narrowly past Christie's left-hand post.

In 26 minutes, Muhsin made a run up the left and sent in a cross, which was knocked behind by Jay. Conway's flag kick was met by Voigt, whose header was only just too high.

Luncarty were seldom seen as an attacking force, but in 35 minutes had a chance to open the scoring when the ball came through to Simpson, who fired in a low shot, but the Gowfers' 'keeper made a great save, turning the ball round his right-hand post for a corner. Lindsay took the kick out on the left, but when the ball came over Scott got there first to clear it away to safety.

Just on the half-time whistle, the Gowfers again came close when Conway took a pass from Hall and fired the ball in low and hard, but was just off target with the ball flashing narrowly past Christie's left-hand upright.

Within a couple of minutes of the restart, a Muhsin drive was deflected behind by Nairn. Again, Conway took the kick and this time picked out Smith, who fired narrowly past.

Carnoustie's pressure was at last rewarded with the opening goal in 51 minutes. Scott won a corner off Christie and from Muhsin's cross, HENDRY rose to power a header into the net.

Two minutes later, the Bleachers almost got back on level terms when a Jarmuszewski corner found Simpson, who sent in a powerful header, but Hall was on hand to block it off the line and the ball spun out behind. Lindsay took the second corner and this time Simpson headed high over the top.

In 61 minutes, Carnoustie increased their lead when Voigt went up for a Conway cross with a defender and the ball dropped to COLLIER, who drilled it past Christie into the net.

Two minutes later, Simpson dispossessed Hendry on the edge of the box and fired off a rocket shot, but the Gowfers' 'keeper got across to make a great save.

In 70 minutes, Conway made another great run up the left, taking the ball almost to the bye-line before crossing it in low and hard to COLLIER, who nipped in on the blind-side to slide the ball home for the Gowfers' third.

Carnoustie continued to press and went four up in 77 minutes when CONWAY made yet another great run up the left and cut inside before unleashing a fierce shot, which Christie got a hand to, but failed to prevent it crossing the line.

With six minutes remaining, a long kick-out by the Gowfer's 'keeper cleared the heads of the home defence and VOIGT, judging his run to perfection, took a great first touch then ran on to drill the ball low past Christie into the corner of the net for number five.
