Musselburgh Versus Carnousite Panmure

GOWFERS DEFEATED BY LEAGUE LEADERS

Musselburgh 3 Carnoustie Panmure 1

On Saturday afternoon, Carnoustie Panmure made their first ever visit to Olivebank Stadium to face table-toppers Musselburgh Athletic in the Buktateamwear.com East Premier League.

In three minutes, Carnoustie mounted their first attack with a long ball forward from Clark being knocked on by Hall towards Voigt, but McPherson rushed from his line and got to it just in front of the striker.

From the 'keeper's clearance, play surged to the other end and Tansey won a corner when Clark got a foot to his attempted cross. Gordon sent the ball in low and hard, but Collier was able to block it away.

In 12 minutes, Voigt was fouled by Gibson right on the halfway line. The home player came off worst in the tackle and required treatment from the physio before continuing.

Robertson's free kick sent Conway away up the left and taking the ball almost to the byeline, he forced a corner off Cennerazzo. Conway took the kick himself and picked out Voigt, who sent his header over the top.

Musselburgh were still doing most of the attacking and opened their account in 16 minutes.

Gordon's pinpoint cross from the left was met by McCallum, whose effort came back off the crossbar and from only a couple of yards out top-scorer M. KING put the home side ahead.

Carnoustie were unlucky not to level things in 26 minutes when Collier powered in a header from a Conway corner, but the ball rebounded from McPherson's right-hand post and was cleared away.

Shortly afterwards, McCallum picked up a loose ball in midfield and passed it on to Gordon, who tried a shot but sent it high over the bar.

From McCafferty's goal kick, the ball reached Hall, who tried a low drive but this was blocked away by Mitchell.

Carnoustie were coming more into the game and deservedly got back on level terms following a great inter-passing movement in 41 minutes.

Cook sent Cumming away up the right. Masson became involved, sticking the ball through to Voigt who neatly flicked it past his marker to REILLY, who cracked it home from 10 yards.

Half Time : Musselburgh 1 Carnoustie Panmure 1

The second half began with an early scare for Musselburgh in 49 minutes. Reilly linked with Clark, who drove the ball low across the face of the home goal. Cennerazzo took a swing at it, but failed to connect properly, sending the ball spinning up in the air.

It could have gone anywhere but, fortunately for the defender, landed right in his 'keeper's hands. The Gowfers' pressure was to no avail as in 57 minutes Musselburgh regained the lead. Birthday boy TANSEY worked a quick one-two with McCallum, then from a tight angle hammered the ball into McCafferty's bottom left-hand corner, giving the 'keeper no chance.

Carnoustie were pushing forward, looking to get back on level terms, but were caught out in 64 minutes when M. King ran on to a long through ball and found McCALLUM, who netted the homesters' third.

Carnoustie were pushing forward at every opportunity and won a corner when a Reilly header from a Collier cross went out behind off Ramage. Conway's cross, however, was missed by everyone and went out for a goal kick.

Clark then linked with Reilly, who drove the ball low and hard across the face of the goal, but with no-one up in support, it went out behind for a goal kick.

In 83 minutes, Mitchell was shown the yellow card for kicking the ball away after being pulled up for fouling Reilly.

Smith was booked in 86 minutes for tripping Tansey, and just a minute later Hunter suffered a similar fate for a studs-up tackle on Devlin.

Still the Gowfers hadn't given up and firstly Reilly tried a long-range shot, which was well-saved. Moments later Collier linked with Hunter, who lobbed the ball forward towards Reilly, but McPherson rushed out to take it cleanly.
