Carnousite Panmure Versus Newtongrange Star

GOWFERS' PROMOTION HOPES EVAPORATE

Carnoustie Panmure 1 Newtongrange Star 3

Carnoustie kicked-off, but were soon on the defensive when Newtongrange forced a corner on the left. McCulloch got his head to Brown's cross, but put the ball past the post.

Star were doing all the early pressing and again came close following a Forbes free kick from halfway.

The one-way traffic continued and it was no surprise when Newtongrange opened the scoring in 10 minutes.

A low drive from Roseburgh was turned behind by McCafferty for a corner on the left. Brown again took the kick and this time picked out the unmarked HUTCHESON, who headed home from close-range.

Carnoustie eventually got up the park and won a corner on the left. Voigt got his head to Conway's cross, only to see his effort cleared off the line by Forbes. The ball then struck McCulloch, but rebounded back into 'keeper Hill's arms.

In a rare Carnoustie counter-attack, a Conway 30-yard drive appeared to be dipping in over Hill's head, but the 'keeper managed to fingertip the ball on to the crossbar and over for a corner.

Just on half-time, the Gowfers should have equalised after a Muhsin cross was headed on by Voigt, but Reilly failed to connect properly.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 0 Newtongrange Star 1

On the restart, Carnoustie were first to show when Clark got on the end of a long through ball from Hall, but his shot was blocked away by a defender.

Star went further ahead in 57 minutes. After a great move up the right, Brown fed a pass across the edge of the box to McCULLOCH, who fired home.

In 78 minutes, the visitors had a slight scare when a Masson shot was fumbled by Hill, but no-one was following up in support.

Newtongrange went three up when WILSON cut in from the left and fired a low drive past McCafferty at his left-hand post.

Just a minute later, Carnoustie grabbed a consolation counter when a Clark shot was parried by Hill and as the ball broke loose, CAMPBELL fired it home from close range.

A miserable afternoon for the Gowfers was completed in stoppage time when a free kick was awarded against Masson, who then protested a bit too strongly to the referee and was red-carded for foul and abusive language.
