Dundee North End Versus Carnousite Panmure

Nine-man Gowfers Struggle To Draw At North End Park

Dundee North End 3 Carnoustie Panmure 3

Although it was North End who set the ball rolling, Carnoustie were first to come close after just three minutes when a Voigt shot was deflected behind by G. Robertson. B. Clark dropped the flag kick right into the goalmouth, but 'keeper Stewart got up well to take the ball off Thompson's head.

North End's first real chance of the match came in nine minutes when Reilly made a mazy run through the middle, then fired off a shot from outside the box, but sent the ball over the bar.

Next minute, the Dokens won a free kick on the right after Beith was adjudged to have fouled Reilly. P. Clark took the kick and sent in a good cross, but Thompson got to it first and cleared the ball away.

Back came the Gowfers with Hall taking a pass from Muhsin before firing in a low drive, but P. Clark, back helping his defence, was able to get it away to safety.

Reilly was first to the loose ball and played it through to McBride, who beat Cook before firing in a low cross, but Gray put his shot straight at McCafferty, who had no trouble making the save.

In 13 minutes, Carnoustie had a half-chance to open the scoring when McCafferty sent a long clearance out to Conway wide on the left. He made a good run down the line, then sent in a low drive, but Stewart got down well to save at the base of his left-hand post.

Two minutes later, Hall brought down Gray 30 yards out, but Brown put the resultant free kick straight to McCafferty. The 'keeper's kick-out carried right to the other end where Muhsin dispossessed G. Robertson and fed the ball through to B. CLARK, who cut inside and drilled a low left foot shot into the corner of the net, giving Stewart no chance and claiming his first goal for the club.

In 16 minutes, Carnoustie almost added a second after B. Clark was fouled by Tawse wide on the left. Conway swung the ball in right under the crossbar from where 'keeper Stewart attempted to punch clear. Cook was first to the loose ball and fed it through to Conway, who drilled in a shot, but found only the side-netting.

The Gowfers continued to press and were rewarded with a second counter in 23 minutes. Muhsin sent in a low ball from the right and this was flicked on by Smith to COOK, who drove home, amid calls for offside from the home players.

The loss of that second goal seemed to sting the Dokens into action and Reilly linked well with Gray, whose low shot was blocked by Thompson. Grant quickly fired the ball back in, but put it straight to McCafferty.

In 28 minutes, Carnoustie passed up a great chance to go even further ahead when Voigt broke clear with only the 'keeper to beat, but fired his shot into the side-netting.

Next minute, North End got themselves back in the game after Grant played a pass through to REILLY, who fired the ball over McCafferty's head into the top corner of the net.

In 35 minutes, Muhsin made a great run down the right, but was fouled in mid-run by Grant. Thompson got a foot to Conway's curling free kick, but hooked the ball just wide.

Three minutes later, the Gowfers were rocked when, after having been on top for so long, the Dokens levelled the tie. P. Clark fed GRAY, who ran on and drove the ball past McCafferty for the equaliser.

North End now had their tails up and almost took the lead in 40 minutes. Reilly made a good run up the left and sent in a fine cross, but McBride squandered the opportunity by shooting high over the top.

McCafferty's goal kick carried right to the other end where Muhsin loosed-off a shot, but put the ball straight at Stewart, who had no trouble making the stop.

Late in the first half, Carnoustie had yet another half-chance when Voigt sent in a cross to Muhsin, who headed narrowly over the top, under pressure from Brown.

As the watch clicked over into stoppage time, Beith was shown the yellow card after protesting a bit too strongly about a hand ball decision that wasn't given.

Half Time : Dundee North End 2 Carnoustie Panmure 2

On the restart, North End were first to show and came close to going ahead when McSkimming fed P. Clark, whose shot from the edge of the box flashed just wide of McCafferty's left-hand upright.

In 54 minutes, Carnoustie won a corner when a Beith cross was turned behind by G. Robertson. B. Clark's flag kick was dropped by 'keeper Stewart, but with none of the Gowfers up to take advantage, he was able to recover and gathered it safely at the second attempt.

The Dokens again came close to taking the lead in 57 minutes when a Reilly cross was flicked on by McBride to Gray, who headed narrowly past McCafferty's right-hand post.

In 64 minutes, Hall and Grant were both cautioned for a midfield tussle. The outcome was a free kick to North End, which Brown sent forward into the Carnoustie box looking for Reilly, but Cook got there first and turned the ball out behind for a corner. P. Clark took the kick, but when the ball came over Thompson was on hand to clear.

In 69 minutes, the Dokens again came close to going in front when Reilly broke through the Gowfers' defence, then laid the ball off to P. Clark, whose rocket shot was palmed away by McCafferty. Reilly fired the ball back in, but this time Smith knocked it behind for a fruitless corner.

Next minute, Carnoustie replaced Conway with Scott, but before the Gowfers could adapt to this change P. Clark played a pass through to GRAY, who ran on and hammered the ball past McCafferty to put North End ahead.

Two minutes later, Carnoustie came close to getting back on level terms when Voigt chipped the ball over Michael Stewart to Smith, who sent in a low drive, which was blocked by 'keeper Stewart with his legs, although he didn't appear to know much about it.

The Gowfers again came close to equalising in 75 minutes when Hall touched a quickly-taken free kick to Scott, who loosed-off a fierce drive, but Mark Stewart got up well to tip the ball over the top.

Next minute, Beith sent the ball through towards Voigt, but it spun off Reilly to Scott, who was then booked for dissent as a claim for hand ball wasn't given.

In 79 minutes, Carnoustie did get back on level terms with a goal from a rather unexpected source. Substitute Collier got on the end of a Beith cross and laid the ball back to HALL, who sent a great shot past Stewart from 15 yards for his first ever competitive goal for the club.

A minute later, G. Robertson saw yellow after chopping down Voigt.

Carnoustie now went in search of a winner and B. Clark linked with Smith, who fired in a low drive, but Tawse got across to clear it off the line with the 'keeper beaten.

In 84 minutes, Carnoustie were reduced to 10 men when Scott took the legs from Reilly and was shown a second yellow card immediately followed by the red.

Three minutes later, the Gowfers were sensationally down to nine after Voigt brought down P. Clark and was shown a straight red card.

Right on the final whistle, North End's Grant became the third ordering-off of the match after he fouled Hall and was shown a second yellow card, followed by the red.

As Thompson sent the resultant free kick away upfield, the referee blew for full-time and the Gowfers must consider this two points lost after having been two goals up and apparently coasting.
