'SNOW' FUN FOR GOWFERS
Carnoustie Panmure 0 Dundee North End 2
North End kicked-off and applied some early pressure to the home goal.In the Gowfers' first attack, a Scott cross from the left was just too strong for Smith at the far post.
Carnoustie continued to press and won a free kick 40 yards out. Conway flighted the ball into the Dokens' box, but Thompson's header went straight to 'keeper Ferrie.
Against the run of play, however, Carnoustie went behind in 18 minutes.
A throw-in by P. Clark to the left-hand edge of the box was collected by McSKIMMING, whose dipping shot on the turn found the far top corner of the net to put North End ahead.
The Gowfers immediately set about trying to get back on level terms and after a good run on the right, Smith fired in a cross, which Ferrie did well to hold at the near post.
It was not to be, however, and in 25 minutes North End doubled their lead, courtesy of slack play by the home defence. Scott was short with a passback to Gourlay and after intercepting the loose ball, McBRIDE shot low past the 'keeper for the Dokens' second.
Having conceded two goals in the space of just seven minutes, Carnoustie were somewhat shell-shocked, but had an early chance to get themselves back in the game after McBride fouled Scott 35 yards out.
Thompson got his head to Conway's free kick, but again only succeeded in directing the ball straight at the 'keeper, who saved easily.
Shortly afterwards, a promising Carnoustie attack ended with Voigt appearing to be brought down inside the visitors' box by Sime, but the referee waved aside the home penalty claims.
Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 0 Dundee North End 2
Carnoustie were forced to make a change for the second half as 'keeper Gourlay had aggravated his hand injury during the first 45 minutes and remained in the dressing-room.In the absence of a spare goalkeeper, Scott agreed to go in goal and the outfield replacement was Muhsin.
On the restart, North End quickly set about trying to test the substitute 'keeper. Robertson was first to have a pop at goal, but his long-range effort was well wide of the mark.
At the other end, Smith came close for Carnoustie with a fierce drive from the edge of the box, which rebounded off the crossbar, with Ferrie beaten.
The Gowfers were again unlucky not to open their account when a Conway corner picked out Thompson, whose header lacked direction and failed to trouble Ferrie.
As play then switched back to the other end, substitute Muhsin tried a snap shot on the turn from just outside the box, but again it was straight at the 'keeper.
North End always looked dangerous on the counter-attack and were unlucky not to go three up when Gray sent a 30 yard drive narrowly past Scott's left-hand upright.
Carnoustie were next to come close when a Conway corner from the right was met by Thompson, whose header had Ferrie beaten, but the ball was cleared off the line by Kerr.
Carnoustie piled on the pressure in the closing stages hoping to salvage something from the game, but the nearest they came to a late consolation counter was a Conway effort, which flashed just wide of Ferrie's left-hand post.
