Scone Thistle Versus Carnousite Panmure

SCONE FRIENDLY PUTS GOWFERS BACK ON WINNING TRAIL

Scone Thistle 1 Carnoustie Panmure 3

On Tuesday evening, Carnoustie Panmure travelled to the Robert Douglas Memorial Ground to meet Scone Thistle in a pre-season friendly, their third game in four days.

Jim Collier was missing due to work commitments as was the trialist 'keeper who played both matches in the Dunipace tournament and his place was taken by another trialist 'keeper.

On the plus side, Scott Robertson was back from holiday and in actual fact came straight from the airport and played the whole game.

Scone were first to try their luck in three minutes, but the 'keeper had no trouble saving Stephen's 40 yard effort.

Two minutes later, Carnoustie should have had a penalty when Conway was fouled by Angus inside the box, but the referee saw nothing wrong and waved play on.

In 13 minutes, the Gowfers forced two corners in quick succession and from the second of these, Conway swung the ball right into the goalmouth where it deflected off Jack and only a last second save on the line prevented a certain own goal.

Three minutes later, Cook sent in a 30 yard rocket shot, but McKinnie brought off a great save to keep his charge intact.

Carnoustie's pressure was eventually rewarded with the opening goal in 23 minutes. Thompson took the ball up the right, then picked out VOIGT, who volleyed a shot high into the roof of the net from eight yards.

The heavy rain prevalent from the start of the match now turned into a torrential downpour and with thunder and lightning crashing all around the continuation of the game was in serious doubt for some 10 minutes.

A poor kick-out by the Gowfers' 'keeper fell to McKinlay, who fired the ball back goalwards, but Robertson got back to clear off the line.

In 35 minutes, a Conway cross was knocked on by Steele to VOIGT,who made no mistake from close-in for the visitors' second.

Just on the interval, Scone had a half-chance to pull one back, but Kelly shot narrowly past.

On the hour mark, Scott picked out Conway with a deep crossfield pass. Taking the ball down the right, he cut inside before trying a shot, which curled just wide of McKinnie's right-hand post.

Scone came close to reducing the deficit in 63 minutes when Gray fired in a low drive, which the 'keeper did well to turn round his right-hand post.

In 69 minutes, a Muhsin shot was knocked behind by Brown for a corner. Conway's flag kick was met by ROBERTSON, who rose to bullet a header into the back of the net for the Gowfers' third.

Four minutes later, Carnoustie almost notched a fourth when Conway picked out Voigt, whose glancing header came back off the base of McKinnie's right-hand post and was hooked clear by Stephen.

Scone grabbed a late consolation goal in 78 minutes after Muhsin fouled C. Hamilton 25 yards out. MCMANUS stepped up and sent a great free kick over the defensive wall and into the net, giving the 'keeper no chance.
