GOWFERS AND 'PORT WILL MEET AGAIN

Carnoustie kicked off with a strong sun at their backs, but little or no wind. The ball was played long up the left for Conway to chase, but R. Morris got across to intercept.In 19 minutes the Gowfers who edged ahead. A cross by Collier into the six-yard box was blocked away by Fitzpatrick, but in the ensuing goalmouth scramble, the ball fell to HUNTER, who stabbed it home.
Just a minute later, it was almost 2-0 after Tayport lost the ball from the restart. Hall played it through to Collier, who unleashed a powerful drive, but Fitzpatrick brought off a great save with some of the visiting support cheering a goal.
As the interval approached, Tayport began to come more into the game and in 40 minutes Holden took a pass from Kenneth and cut inside before firing off a shot, but McCafferty had no trouble making the save.
Two minutes later, 'Port were back on level terms. Holden collected the ball wide on the right and skipped past Hendry before sending in a low cross to the unmarked URQUHART, who beat McCafferty from five yards for the equaliser.

Controversy flared in 61 minutes when the ball appeared to strike Thompson on the hand at the edge of the Carnoustie box. With 'Port players screaming for a penalty, the referee, who hadn't given anything, stopped play and went to speak with his assistant. After a short consultation, the official awarded a free kick outside the box and booked Thompson for hand ball.Again Kenneth took the kick, but once more McCafferty had no trouble making the save.
Carnoustie were unlucky not to regain the lead in 63 minutes when a Conway free kick took a deflection off a defender and looked to be beating Fitzpatrick, but the ball struck the 'keeper's right-hand post and was cleared away by Paterson.
In 72 minutes, Thompson was adjudged to have fouled Kenneth just outside the box. Kenneth again took the kick and touched the ball to Juskowiak, who let fly with a shot, but sent the ball past about halfway between the post and the corner flag amid jeers from the sizeable Gowfers' support.
The remainder of the tie was played out mainly in midfield and after fully five minutes of stoppage time, the referee brought proceedings to a close and both sides have it all to do again.
