Armadale attacked from the kick-off and had an early chance when L. Johnstone was put through by his brother R. Johnstone, but shot straight at Jamieson from the edge of the box.Moments later, an L. Johnstone close-in shot was blocked by Robertson and Mauchline fired the rebound just wide of the right-hand post.
Thistle continued to press and it was no surprise when they opened the scoring in five minutes. Bonnar's cross from the right led to a scramble in the box before FEENEY knocked the ball home from close-range.
The loss of that goal stung Carnoustie into action and they should have levelled the score almost immediately when McSkimming sent Gates clear on the left. He squared the ball across the box to the unmarked Reilly, who shot weakly into Wood's arms when he should have done better.
Shortly afterwards, the Gowfers again came close when a McIlravey corner fell to Gates, whose shot was cleared off the line. Robertson was first to the loose ball, but his attempt at goal was blocked and rebounded back up the park.
In their next attack, Carnoustie won a free kick 25 yards out. Gates flighted the ball over the defensive wall, but his effort was just too high and also cleared the crossbar.
Just when the Gowfers were threatening to get back on level terms they went two down in 22 minutes. Armadale won a corner on the left and Buchanan's header from Connelly's cross was blocked on the line and came back out to R. JOHNSTONE, who blasted the ball high into the roof of the net from 15 yards.
In 25 minutes, Thistle made a change, replacing McIntosh with Suchinsky.
Carnoustie set about trying to get themselves back in the game and a Reilly 30 yard effort had Wood scrambling across his goal as the ball flashed narrowly past his right-hand post.
Back at the other end, Armadale came close to adding a third when a Connelly corner from the left was only partially cleared and from the edge of the box L. Johnstone fired high over the top.
After a slow start, the Gowfers were now seeing more of the ball and forced a corner on the right, but from Gates' cross, Cumming headed straight into the 'keeper's hands.
In 31 minutes, Carnoustie pulled a goal back after a foul by McCulloch 35 yards out. REILLY's low curling free kick beat the defensive wall and ended up in the back of the net after being fumbled by the despairing Wood.
This prompted Armadale to push forward once more and yet another Connelly corner from the left was only partially cleared and came out to R. Johnstone, who headed over from the edge of the box.
Mauchline then unleashed a 25 yard volley, which was too straight and held easily by Jamieson. Just on half-time, Carnoustie had a chance to draw level after Reilly was fouled by Mauchline on halfway. Hall took the resultant free kick and picked out Cumming, who headed narrowly over.

On the restart, Armadale were again first to show and almost restored their two-goal lead when L. Johnstone hooked a shot over his shoulder from the edge of the box and was just off target.In 54 minutes, Carnoustie replaced McIlravey with Milne. The substitute was quickly involved when from a Gates' corner on the left, he knocked the ball on to Cumming, who fired narrowly over.
The Gowfers were now doing most of the pressing, but Thistle still looked dangerous on the break and again came close to doubling their advantage when a Buchanan header from a Connelly corner was blocked away off the line by Jamieson, with Robertson completing the clearance.
Back at the other end, a snap shot by Narey from 20 yards almost caught Armadale out, but was just too high.
In 64 minutes, the mounting home pressure was rewarded with a deserved equaliser. A fine cross by Gates from the right to the back post was met by the inrushing ROBERTSON, who powered a header into the far corner of the net, giving Wood no chance.
Referee Harris produced his yellow card for the first time in 82 minutes when R. Johnstone was booked for a foul on Narey, who was unable to continue and was replaced by Tonner. Before play resumed, a second Thistle player, L. Johnstone, saw yellow for dissent.
From the resultant free kick, substitute Tonner played the ball through to Reilly, whose shot from the right-hand corner of the box curled inches wide of the far post, with the 'keeper beaten.
Out came the yellow card again in 86 minutes when Reilly was booked for a foul on Mauchline. McCulloch took the free kick, but fired the ball straight at Jamieson, who had no trouble making the save.
With just a minute to go, McCulloch was yellow-carded for a handling offence just outside the box. Cumming got his head to Gates' free kick, but 'keeper Wood clutched the ball safely to deny Carnoustie a late winner.
