Ballingry Rovers Versus Carnousite Panmure

DISPUTED PENALTY CONDEMNS GOWFERS TO DEFEAT

Ballingry Rovers 1 Carnoustie Panmure 0

On Saturday afternoon, Carnoustie Panmure travelled deep into Fife to face Ballingry Rovers in the Bukta teamwear.com East Premier League, but the game started only after the Ore Park surface had been declared playable following two morning pitch inspections.

On their arrival at the venue shortly after 1 p.m., the Gowfers' contingent found that heavy rain had again started to fall putting the game in doubt once more.

While the players changed and went out to warm-up, match referee Paul McAvenue made a further inspection of the pitch after which he said he would start the game, but it might not be possible to play the full 90 minutes.

Panmure boss Ian Gilzean fielded the same 11 that had started the previous week against St Andrews United.

Bench spots again went to Daryn Smith, Mattie Henderson and Steven Cook, with the addition of Terry Masson, who had recovered from his recent injury.

The match eventually got under way at 2.07 p.m. and it was Carnoustie who set the ball rolling, playing up the slope and with the rain still falling.

With half an hour on the watch, Ballingry took the lead in a most controversial manner.

King sent in a cross towards a group of players clustered round the D-area at the edge of the box.

As the ball came in, Graham went down and the referee ran forward pointing to the spot, indicating that Hendry had pushed the player.

After the official had waved aside Gowfers' protests that the incident had taken place at least two yards outside the box, ADAM smashed the spot kick into the net, giving Jamieson no chance.

Within a minute of the restart, the referee was again flashing his yellow card after King brought down Reilly.

Unbelievably, the official booked Reilly, while King was lucky not to see red instead of yellow after pushing the Carnoustie player away.

Half Time : Ballingry Rovers 1 Carnoustie Panmure 0

In 54 minutes, Rovers were reduced to 10 men when King chopped down Urquhart and was shown a second yellow card immediately followed by the red.

The referee raised howls of protest from the Gowfers' support towards the end when Dempster got his head to a McIlravey cross and sent it out behind, but incredibly the official gave a goal kick instead of the corner it so obviously was. Masson protested and was shown the yellow card.

Smith took the goal kick and sent the ball out towards the home right touchline. Hall went with a Rovers' player to intercept and as the Ballingry man went down the Gowfers' skipper was shown a second yellow card followed by the red.

As Lawson sent the resultant free kick deep into the Carnoustie half, the referee brought proceedings to a close, leaving the Gowfers feeling they had again had a raw deal at this venue just as they had last season.
