Forfar West End Versus Carnousite Panmure

West End In Seventh Heaven As Gowfers Hit Rock Bottom

Forfar West End 7 Carnoustie Panmure 0

Carnoustie kicked-off playing up the slight slope, but lost possession almost immediately and the ball was played deep into the Gowfers' box. McCafferty jumped in an attempt to claim the ball, with Duell in close attendance, but failed to do so and fell to the ground. The ball broke to MUCKERSIE, who knocked it home to put West End ahead with only 38 seconds on the watch.

McCafferty continued to writhe on the ground and received prolonged treatment from the Gowfers' trainer. After some five minutes, the 'keeper got back to his feet and retook his place between the sticks. However, just a minute later, he indicated that he would have to come off and Jamieson went on in his place.

In 11 minutes, Lawson went round the outside of Narey and taking the ball almost right to the bye-line, sent in a good cross, but Jamieson got up well to take it cleanly.

Five minutes later, Carnoustie won a corner on the right when a Cook cross was diverted behind by McKenzie. However, Clark put far too much weight behind his flag kick and the ball went right across and out at the other side without anyone getting a touch.

Reilly was then fouled by Sime on the halfway line and from the resultant free kick Hall sent the ball deep into the West End box, but Black got up well to head clear.

In 19 minutes, Reilly back-heeled a Narey pass into the path of Clark, but his shot was weak and Vanderdeyl had no trouble making the save.

Next minute, the Gowfers fell further behind after losing the ball in midfield and it was played through to MUCKERSIE, who chipped it over the advancing Jamieson into the top corner of the net for the homesters' second.

In 26 minutes, Stewart went down in the Carnoustie box after a clash with Clark and after consulting with his assistant, the referee pointed to the spot. DUELL took the kick and sent Jamieson the wrong way to put West End three up.

With half an hour on the watch, Hall was shown the yellow card for a foul on Lawson.

Two minutes later, the Gowfers went further behind when the defence again failed to clear their lines and the ball fell to BLACK, who knocked in number four.

Right on the half-time whistle, West End won a corner when a Muckersie cross was turned behind by Narey, but Lawson's cross drifted harmlessly out behind.

As Jamieson's goal kick cleared the halfway line, the referee brought the first half to a close, much to the relief of everyone in the Carnoustie camp.

Within seconds of the restart, Smith played a good ball into the West End box, but before Cumming could get to it, Black got across to clear.

In 47 minutes, Narey hauled back Muckersie as he ran through on goal and the referee immediately ran forward pointing to the spot. DUELL again sent Jamieson the wrong way to make it five.

Carnoustie came close to pulling a goal back in 52 minutes after Masson was fouled by Lawson midway inside the West End half. From Hall's free kick, Reilly fed the ball through to Cumming, who tried a shot, but Vanderdeyl got down to make a fine save at the base of his right-hand post.

Next minute, Clark linked with Cook, who made his way forward to the bye-line, then won a corner off Logan. Clark took the kick, but put the ball right across the goal and out behind for a goal kick without anyone else getting a touch.

In 55 minutes, West End increased their lead when a ball into the Gowfers' box was cleared out to the edge of the area from where MCKENZIE smashed a first-time shot past Jamieson, giving the 'keeper no chance.

Two minutes later, Thompson fouled McKenzie on the edge of the box. Lawson's free kick to the back post picked out the unmarked Stewart, who headed it past, high and wide.

West End made their first substitution in 59 minutes with Logan being replaced by Cox.

Five minutes later, the Gowfers made a double change, replacing Narey and Clark with Beith and McIlravey.

In 66 minutes, West End were awarded a third penalty when Smith brought down Cox at the edge of the box. DUELL again fired the ball home to complete the rather unique feat of a hat-trick of penalties.

Carnoustie kept plugging away and in 75 minutes Beith set up an attack with a pass through to Cumming, but the latter's shot was rather weak and the 'keeper had no trouble making the stop.

At this point, the homesters made a further change, replacing Muckersie with Lees.

In 83 minutes, the Gowfers had another half-chance, but Smith put his drive narrowly over the top.

As West End pushed forward once more, Robertson was booked for a foul on Lawson midway inside the visitors' half. Lawson himself took the free kick, but put the ball high over the top.

In the dying seconds, Carnoustie had a last chance to snatch a consolation counter, but Beith put his shot just wide of the 'keeper's right-hand post.

As Vanderdeyl sent his goal kick out over the halfway line, the referee brought proceedings to a close, bringing down the curtain on one of the Gowfers' heaviest ever defeats and certainly the first time they have conceded seven goals since they did so against the now defunct Fife side Valleyfield some 40 years ago in a Scottish Cup second round tie in season 1967-68, although in that match they at least managed to score one goal in reply.
