Gowfers Win Again

About half an hour before kick-off, rain started falling and was being blown horizontally across the park by a gale-force easterly wind creating conditions so horrendous that it would not have been any great surprise had the referee called the match off before a ball had been kicked.Roselea kicked-off and won an early free kick 30 yards out on the left, but Fotheringham's ball into the box was cleared away by Beith.
At the other end, Carnoustie's first attack produced a corner, but McIlravey's inswinging cross was well held by McLeod just under the crossbar.
The Gowfers continued to press and took the lead in nine minutes when Smith got down the left and crossed into the box where CUMMING side-footed the ball past McLeod from 10 yards.
Shortly afterwards, Montrose almost got back on level terms when a Rae cross from the right picked out Kerrigan, whose header skimmed the outside of Jamieson's right-hand post.
The home side pushed forward again and forced a corner on the right, but Fraser's cross was headed clear by McSkimming.
Kerrigan then tried a shot from the edge of the box, but put the ball straight to Jamieson, who saved easily.
In 21 minutes, Carnoustie were gifted a second goal when a Graham passback was intercepted by REILLY, who rounded McLeod before knocking the ball into the empty net.
Graham had an early chance to redeem himself, but shot well wide of Jamieson's right-hand post from 25 yards.
Roselea made a change in 31 minutes, replacing Reoch with Longmuir.
The homesters lifted their game after this and Carnoustie had a scare when a Craig 30 yard effort flashed just wide of Jamieson's left-hand upright.
In 39 minutes, Reilly took a bad knock, but was able to continue after treatment.
A minute later, Miller was booked for a foul on Cumming. Smith's free kick was blocked for a corner by McLeod, but McIlravey's cross was cleared by Fotheringham.

Roselea resumed after the break with Mitchell on in place of Rae.The homesters were first to show in the second half, but Longmuir's 25 yard drive flew high over the bar.
Shortly afterwards, a Mitchell cross from the right was well held by Jamieson at the near post.
Graham then tried his luck from 35 yards, but again Jamieson got down well to save at the base of his left-hand post.
Montrose continued to pile on the pressure, but in 57 minutes were caught on the break by a strong contender for goal of the season. A corner by Fraser on the home right was cleared to the edge of the Gowfers' box from where REILLY proceeded to run 60 yards, beating man after man, before rounding off a superb solo effort by firing low into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
Despite that body blow, Roselea kept plugging away and a Kerrigan drive narrowly missed Jamieson's right-hand post.
Kennedy then tried a shot on the turn from 20 yards, but his effort was well held by Jamieson.
In 75 minutes, Graham was booked for a foul on Reilly, and two minutes later Fotheringham also saw yellow for a foul on Narey.
Carnoustie almost added to their tally following a great run and pass by Cumming, but McLeod brought off a brilliant save from McIlravey's low drive.
In 82 minutes, the Gowfers made their one and only substitution of the match, sending on Urquhart for McIlravey who had worked his socks off in the atrocious conditions.
A minute later, Montrose forced a corner on the left and with Fraser's cross hanging in the wind, Jamieson failed to palm it over the bar. The ball dropped to KERRIGAN, who knocked it home from close-in to trigger hopes of a late home fightback.
Carnoustie now found themselves under pressure and a deep cross into the box by Miller was headed just past by Kerrigan.
In 89 minutes, Whyte punted a high cross into the Gowfers' box. The ball was again held up in the wind and with the visitors defence caught static, MITCHELL nipped in to score Roselea's second.
Carnoustie now had their backs to the wall, but held out for a second successive narrow 3-2 victory.
