Carnousite Panmure Versus Montrose Roselea

Stoppage-Time Again Proves Costly For Gowfers

Carnoustie Panmure 2 Montrose Roselea 2

Montrose kicked-off and forced an early corner on the right, but Kennedy's short ball to the near post was intercepted and cleared by Hall.

Moments later, Roselea again threatened the home goal, but Kennedy's long-range effort flew wide of Jamieson's right-hand post.

The visitors continued to press and Carnoustie survived a slight scare when a cross from the left by McKellar carried just too far and landed on the roof of the net.

The Gowfers at last worked their way forward into the Roselea half and won a corner on the right, but Urquhart's cross was headed clear by Graham.

Shortly afterwards, another Urquhart corner, this time from the left, almost produced the opening goal. His cross was nodded goalwards by Robertson, but Whyte somehow managed to head the ball off the line via the underside of the crossbar.

In 27 minutes, Rae was booked for a foul on Masson.

Back at the other end, Kennedy again tried his luck from distance, but this time his strike was too high and cleared the crossbar.

Further chances followed at both ends before Carnoustie edged ahead in 35 minutes. Gates won the ball on the halfway line and went past Mustard before squaring a pass across the box to REILLY, who chipped the ball into the net over the advancing McLeod.

Montrose kept plugging away and almost equalised when a Rae corner from the right fell to Kennedy, who shot over from 12 yards.

However, the visitors were not to be denied and deservedly got back on level terms in 41 minutes when a Fotheringham cross from the right was met by WATSON, who shot home through a ruck of players. Jamieson, diving to his left, appeared to have it covered, but the ball took a wicked deflection and ended up in the back of the net.

On the stroke of half-time, Reilly had a chance to put Carnoustie back in front when he cut into the box and tried a shot from 15 yards, but the ball flashed across the face of the goal and wide of the far post.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 1 Montrose Roselea 1

Just three minutes into the second half, Carnoustie regained the lead after Gates, going through on goal, was pulled down inside the box by Graham, who was red-carded for the 'last man' offence. Taking the resultant penalty himself, GATES fired the ball into the left-hand corner of the net, giving McLeod no chance.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Roselea were still very much in the game and came close to levelling things once more when a deep cross from Whyte into the box was well held by Jamieson, under pressure from Watson.

In 58 minutes, Montrose were dealt a further blow when Rae picked up a second yellow card, followed by the red, after kicking the ball away and the visitors were down to just nine.

Undaunted, however, Roselea continued to push forward and forced a corner on the right, but Craig's inswinging cross was clutched safely by Jamieson just under the crossbar.

Shortly afterwards, Kennedy tried a 25 yard snap shot, which Jamieson did well to turn past the post.

The first substitution of the match was made by Montrose in 64 minutes, McKellar going off to be replaced by Strachan.

A minute later, Watson was booked for diving after going down in the box, looking for a penalty.

Carnoustie almost increased their lead when Narey fired in a deep cross from the right, but Gates made a poor connection and only succeeded in turning the ball into 'keeper McLeod's arms.

In 72 minutes, the Gowfers made a change, replacing Urquhart with Smith.

Roselea then made a second substitution in 75 minutes, sending on Hood for Reoch.

Carnoustie now piled on the pressure looking for a decisive third counter.

Narey came close when he got his head to a Gates corner from the left, but a free kick was awarded against him for pushing.

Mustard then conceded a foul 30 yards out, but Masson's free kick was blocked by the defensive wall and cleared.

As the Gowfers continued to press, a fine cross by Gates from the left picked out Smith, whose header struck the top of the crossbar and went over.

In 84 minutes, Masson was booked for dissent, then two minutes later, Reilly was yellow-carded for a foul on Strachan.

Four minutes into stoppage-time, Carnoustie paid the penalty for their numerous missed chances when nine-man Roselea snatched a late equaliser. Watson won a corner on the left and Kennedy's cross into the crowded goalmouth broke to WHYTE, who knocked the ball home from close-range to earn the visitors a rather fortunate draw.

The Gowfers have now conceded three stoppage-time goals in their last two league fixtures, throwing away five points in the process. In fact, had Ian Gilzean's men won both these games they would now be sitting top of the league. That's how costly these late lapses have been.
