Carnousite Panmure Versus Sauchie

10-Man Sauchie Send Gowfers Crashing Out Of 'Scottish'

Carnoustie Panmure 1 Sauchie 2

Carnoustie kicked-off, but quickly found themselves under pressure and could have gone behind in three minutes. Donaldson caught the home defence square and although his shot was half-blocked by the advancing Jamieson, the ball continued to head towards the empty goal, but Hendry got back to clear off the line.

Having survived that early scare, the Gowfers stepped up a gear and two minutes later forced a corner on the left. Cook curled the ball in towards the goal and in attempting to clear, the unfortunate TULLY headed the ball past his own 'keeper to give Carnoustie the lead.

From the centre, Sauchie quickly switched play back to the other end and a snap shot by Comrie was well held by Jamieson at the base of his right-hand post.

Carnoustie pushed forward once more and were unlucky not to double their lead in 11 minutes. Milne beat Burns up the right before firing a cross into the six yard box where Tully shoved Perera in the back, conceding a penalty and receiving a red card in the process. Gates took the spot kick, but Hardie in the visitors' goal brought off a great save, turning the ball on to the underside of the crossbar and quickly grabbing it as it came down on the line.

The Gowfers kept plugging away and a Clark corner from the right was cleared by Hardie from under the crossbar, with Milne in close attendance.

Shortly afterwards, Milne made a great run forward before sending in a low cross, but the ball was nicked off Perera's toes and put behind for a corner. Cook's cross picked out Roberts, who squandered the opportunity by shooting high over the bar.

After a good spell of pressure by the homesters, Sauchie began to come back into the game and a long-range strike by Comrie flew narrowly over the top.

The first substitution of the match was made by the visitors in 27 minutes when Learmonth was introduced for Gardiner.

Two minutes later, Sauchie thought they had equalised when a Comrie cross was knocked home by Bell from 10 yards, but the 'goal' was disallowed for offside, much to the Gowfers' relief.

As the 'Wee County' men continued to press, Comrie unleashed a fierce 35 yard drive, which Jamieson held safely.

Milne put Carnoustie back on the attack with a good ball up the left to Cumming, whose shot was tipped over the bar by Hardie for a fruitless corner.

The final chance of the first half fell to 10-man Sauchie, but Comrie's free kick from out on the left was headed just wide by Bell.

Half Time : Carnoustie Panmure 1 Sauchie 0

On the restart, Sauchie were again first to show, but King's attempt at goal from a 35 yard free kick was blocked away by the defensive wall.

In 54 minutes, Clark was booked for a foul on Purdie. However, several visiting players were unsatisfied with the severity of Clark's punishment and this resulted in Purdie and Learmonth both being shown the yellow card for dissent.

A snap shot by Bell almost caught Carnoustie napping, but Jamieson was alert to the danger and brought off a fine save.

The Gowfers made their first substitution in 57 minutes, replacing Perera with Beattie.

A minute later, Milne was booked for dissent.

Despite playing against the wind and being a man short, Sauchie were doing most of the pressing and equalised in 64 minutes when a Bell cross from the left was met by COMRIE, who drove the ball home from 15 yards, giving Jamieson no chance.

Two minutes later, McIlravey replaced Cumming for the Gowfers.

Sauchie now had their tails up and almost took the lead when Donaldson fired in a shot from the right, but found only the side-netting.

With the tie apparently drifting away from them, Carnoustie made their third and final change in 70 minutes with McSkimming taking over from Clark.

The substitute was quickly involved in the thick of the action, heading just wide from a Gates free kick after Cook had been fouled 40 yards out.

Back came the visitors and Cummings tested Jamieson with a fierce 25 yard shot, which the 'keeper did well to block away.

In 85 minutes, Bonar replaced Bell for Sauchie.

Three minutes later, Bonar was fouled by Tonner on the halfway line. King's high free kick into the home box picked out DONALDSON, who looped a header over the advancing Jamieson into the empty net to give the visitors a late winner.

McKeown replaced Cummings for Sauchie in 89 minutes.

Right on the final whistle, Carnoustie were also reduced to 10 men when Milne received a second yellow card followed by the red.
