Earlier this week, we managed to sit down with the manager Alan McSkimming for a chat
So, What are your thoughts on the season so far ?
It’s been a very encouraging and positive start to the season, after 11 league games we are on 13 points and based on how we have played, it’s an accurate total. The Super League does not have easy games so for us every game needs to have the same focus and effort in preparation, whether we are playing the top of the league or the bottom of the league. In recent weeks our squad has been light due to injuries especially to our defensive which has certainly played a part in recent performances and score lines, but I am pleased with the start we have made overall.
Who have been the best team we have played ?
Easy one for me, Bonnyrigg Rose are not only the best side we have played this year but in the last 4-5 years that I have been here.
What makes Bonnyrigg stand out ?
It is a squad full of experienced players that have real quality in every aspect of their game, it’s a group that Robbie Horn put together during his time there and as a squad they are for me, miles ahead of the rest.
You mentioned the injuries, what’s the latest on those ?
I wish I had some good news on this but unfortunately not. Central pairing Adam Harwood and Derek Paterson are both out for the foreseeable with groin injuries so there both working hard on strengthening of conditioning of the area to see if can rectify the issue. Luke McGeehan is still out with an ongoing ankle injury that we thought had eased however we hope to get him back training in the next 2-3 weeks.
A slightly a more positive note Ryan Roche has had the all clear from his Orthopaedic surgeon and is starting back running after his knee operation. It’s great to see the big man back on the go and the boys will be looking forward to seeing him back on the training field.
What are your targets for the rest of the season ?
They are the same as they were at the start of the season, get to Christmas on as many points as we can to allow us to us to go and be successful in the second half of the season. The points target for me is progression on where we have been the last season but with the squad of boys we have I would to really push on to create another new highest points total for the club in the Super League.
