CAPTAIN COOK IS HAT-TRICK HERO

Carnoustie bounced back from the midweek defeat to Kirriemuir on penalties in the best possible way with a 7-0 demolition of a sorry Jeanfield side at Riverside Stadium.

The Gowfers made three changes, Jamie Robbie as expected came back in place of Alan Cormack,  Jake Mair replaced the injured Sam Simpson and Derek Paterson partnered Ryan Roche in place of Adam Harwood who was ill.

Carnoustie got off to the best start when skipper,  Steven Cook headed home after Ryan Dignan had flicked on a Robert Urquhart corner after just three minutes. The Gowfers dominance was further rewarded on 32 minutes as Cook made it 2-0 when he rifled the ball home at the back post after a free kick wasn’t dealt with by the Jeanfield defence. In a bizarre incident just before the break, the Jeanfield number 10 appeared to kick out at Jamie Robbie who had the ball in his hands but the referee waved play on without any punishment.

The Gowfers started the second half just like the first with a goal, 3 minutes after the restart when Dignan scored after another free kick this time from Paterson wasn’t dealt with. On 56 minutes it was four as Ewan Buggins powered a diving header in to the net from another Urquhart corner. Four minutes later Pat Martin, who had been a real handful to the home defence was crudely brought down and Cook was given the chance to complete his hat-trick, Club Captain Cook made no mistake as he crashed his penalty past Mark Mitchell and in to the net. Carnoustie were far from finished and intent on making things worse for a beleaguered Jeanfield. A great through ball from Buggins found Urquhart in acres of space and the winger crossed the ball for Dignan to sore in  the bottom corner to make it 6-0. Jamie McCabe completed the scoring on 84 minutes when he hit a great free kick from 30 yards in to the far corner to complete a total demolition

A perfect way to bounce back from disappointment with excellent performances all over the park including Jamie Robbie who will have had few quieter afternoons but when called upon in the second half pulled of a great save to keep a clean sheet.
