Carnoustie 1 Musselburgh Ath 2
Carnoustie failed to follow up last weekends win at Camelon as they lost 2-1 at home to Musselburgh in a disappointing encounter at Laing Park.
Alan McSkimmings pre-match plans were complicated in the warm up when he lost Danny Millar due to a hamstring injury which meant Adam Harwood stepped up from the bench to partner Ryan Roche.
…
Both sides looked nervous at the start with neither keeper having much to do. Musselburgh were reduced to 10 men on 24 minutes when John McManus was ordered off for an off the ball incident with Robert Urquhart. Carnoustie took control but still failed to carve out a clear cut chance. The home side were dealt a double blow just before the break. Ryan Roche was shown a straight red card for a push on Musselburgh’s Ewan Ralton. Matthew Lynch then compounded the punishment when he saw his free kick deflected off the wall and past Jamie Robbie to give the visitors a lead that they scarcely deserved.
Musselburgh scored a second on 52 minutes when Jed Davie was given far too much room before firing a shot in to the top corner of Jamie Robbie’s goal. Carnoustie huffed and puffed but still failed to put Kieron Renton under any pressure until the big keeper fumbled a long range Sam Simpson effort, in to his own net on 88 minutes to give Carnoustie a glimmer of hope. Hope was all it was as the visitors held firm to take the points from a game where a draw would have been a fairer result.
