CUIKIE CRUMBLE TO PANNY

Carnoustie travelled to Penicuik with eight players missing and then if that wasn’t enough an accident on the M90 led to the team bus being delayed enroute arriving just 50 minutes before kick off.

None of the problems affected Alan McSkimming’s troops as they inflicted a rare home league defeat on Johnny Harveys high flying Cuikie. Panmure, who had John Roberts starting his first game of the season, dominated proceedings, were the better side in each position and deservedly took the lead when Sam Simpson scored from the spot after he was pushed on 52 minutes. The lead was doubled ten minutes later, Jamie Robbie managed to get a finger tip to a thundering free kick and as it came back off the bar, Scott Gray won the ball before setting Gordon Macdonald free, despite the attempts of a defender, he found Robert Urquhart who calmly slipped the ball home. Carnoustie had chances to extend their lead but couldn’t quite manage it. Panny saw the game out without any drama with the back four magnificent, particularly Ewan Buggins who was outstanding alongside Ryan Roche.

At the final whistle, Penicuik tempers boiled over and at least one red card was shown.

A magnificent performance and result but fully deserved.
