Newtongrange Star 1 Carnoustie 2
Carnoustie’s threadbare squad had to recover from conceding an early goal at New Victoria Park against Newtongrange Star and recover they did as two wonder strikes from Ryan Dignan saw Alan McSkimmings troops take three points from Newtongrange for the first time ever.
A late change to the starting eleven saw trialist Alan Conway move in to the middle of the park and Jamie McCabe on the right with Marc Walker on the bench while a second trialist in Callum Moodie started at left back.
The Gowfers were stung after just three minutes when Wes Mitchell put Newtongrange in front but soon recovered to dominate their hosts. Dignan equalised on thirteen minutes when he hit a dipping effort from 30 yards over the keeper. If that was a great goal his second just after the half hour was even better when he volleyed the ball in to the net giving the keeper no chance.
Carnoustie had chances to extend their lead and didn’t really come under any real pressure until the last 15 minutes but as is becoming the norm Man Of The Match Adam Harwood and Derek Paterson in the centre of the back four were exemplary, snuffing out any threat from the hosts.
A brilliant three points as The Gowfers make it three in three with Camelon at Laing Park next weekend.
