FIRST WIN FOR GOWFERS

Carnoustie Panmure 3 Broxburn Athletic 2

Carnoustie boss Alan McSkimming was critical of his sides performance in midweek against Lochee United but he got the reaction he expected as The Gowfers were comfortable winners over Broxburn Athletic at Laing Park.

McSkimming still had injuries to contend with, a problem made worse by losing the returning Liam Scott in the warm up. Jake Mair returned at Left back and Bailey Steel replaced Jamie McCabe in the centre of the park.

The home side started well and took a deserved lead on 21 minutes through Ryan Dignan. A corner was headed back across goal by Derek Paterson and when the visitors keeper failed to hold on to Marc Walkers snap shot, Dignan reacted quickest to stab the ball home. Broxburn equalised on 41 minutes after Jamie Robbie conceded a penalty for the second game, Darren Downie smashing the kick in to the roof of the net. Parity lasted just 60 seconds until Pat Martin rifled the Gowfers back in front from the edge of the box after a corner was only partially cleared by the visitors back line.

Dignan made it 3-1 on 62 minutes when he was once again the man on the spot to stab the ball home after two efforts were blocked. Carnoustie were grateful of the lead when Pat Martin was harshly shown a second yellow card for simulation after he had clearly been impeded by the keeper. Despite the number advantage Broxburn never really looked like getting back in to the game until the 91st minute when Keiran Anderson found space on the left to smash the ball past Jamie Robbie. However, the goal was too little to late from a poor Broxburn side and Carnoustie recorded their first win of the season
