FROM THE DUGOUT 4th May 2016

It’s been a tough couple of weeks at the club with results and performances being inconsistent at best, with the league now starting to tighten up at both ends as well.

The back to back 3-0 defeats from Fauldhouse Utd (league) and Lochee United (Cup Semi Final) were a particularly low moment for us this season. Both performances were lacklustre and we did not play with the intensity and desire I expect from this group of players. Work ethic is absolutely crucial at any level and if you allow that to drop, then more often than not you get penalised, this was the case in both 3-0 defeats. Sadly we just did not work hard enough as a group and lacked a cutting edge in our game.

Disappointingly in both games we created chances, however we made the wrong decision in front of the goal and never capitalised on the pressure we created.

On Saturday we had a much depleted squad, with no fewer than 6 players missing, but this gave us an opportunity to reshuffle the pack ,freshen things up and to a reasonable extent it worked.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat was a sore one because we controlled majority of the game and peppered Musselburgh goal with chances for 90 minutes, however two goalkeeping errors contributed heavily to the two goals we conceded. We did put the ball in the net ,when Pat Smith scored with a superb finish from an acute angle, however it was deemed offside to our disbelief.

Scorelines and league tables don’t lie and we need no reminder as to what we need to do in our remaining 9 league games. With 5 at home and 4 away  our destiny  is well and truly in our hands. We are more than confident that we can finish a season on a high with plenty of opportunity to secure points.
