Carnoustie were beaten 3-1 by an excellent Dundee United side that were predominantly youth players but included a few with first team experience, however, of more concern to manager Phil McGuire was an injury to skipper Jamie Winter who had to be carried off midway through the first half.

Mark Smith gave Carnoustie the lead when he turned the ball home at the back post but the visitors were soon level. Carnoustie lost skipper Jamie Winter to what looked like a bad ankle injury midway through the half as well.

The visitors took control after the break as Carnoustie utilised all of their subs and the visitors scored twice to run out 3-1 winners in a competitive game.
