GOWFERS BURST BLUE LOON BUBBLE

Carnoustie marched in to the Fifth Round of the Scottish Junior Cup after a comfortable 2-0 victory at Kilsyth Rangers.

Gowfers boss was able to name the same starting eleven as had beaten Broughty Athletic, 3weeks ago after Ryan Dignan declared himself fit after being laid low with flu all week.

Carnoustie started well and despite dominating didn’t take the lead until the 33rd minute, the ball was fed out to the right to Dignan who found himself in acres of space before delivering a pin point cross on to the head of Jamie McCabe and he headed home. McSkimming’s men continued to dominate and should have added to the scoreline before the break but led by the one goal after the first 45.

The Second half was much the same but the home side were given an opportunity to equalise when Derek Paterson was penalised for handball in the box only for the chance to be passed up as the kick went well wide. When Sam Simpson completed a slick passing started by himself on 56 minutes it was no more than Panmure deserved, the ball from was fed through John Roberts to Robert Urquhart before a neat one two between the winger and skipper. Steven Cook saw Urquhart in space, his cross was missed by McCabe but Simpson was on the left of the box to fire the ball home.

Alan Cormack in the Carnoustie goal had little to do in the game, largely due to the imperious performance of Man Of the Match, Ewan Buggins at the heart of the defence and the combative duo of Roberts and paddy Conway in the middle of the park

Carnoustie now go on to face another West Region side, Arthurlie in the Fifth Round at Laing Park

Carnoustie : Cormack, Cook, Mair, Patterson, Buggins, Roberts(McGeehan), Urquhart, Conway, Dignan (Walker), McCabe, Simpson (Martin)
