GOWFERS FAIL TO RECOVER FROM EARLY BLOW

Carnoustie Panmure 0 Newtongrange Star 2

The Gowfers conceded the opener after just 13 seconds to Newtongrange Star at Laing Park and never really looked like recovering and went on to lose 2-0 to the Lothian side, a result that plunges Carnoustie Panmure deep in the battle to avoid the drop.

Carnoustie were boosted by Alan McSkimming taking his place in the dugout following knee surgery and the Gowfers boss made changes to the side, Jamie Robbie replaced Alan Cormack in goal while Adam Harwood partnered Ryan Roche at the heart of the defence. Jake Mair took up a role in the left in place of Sam Simpson while Pat Martin joined Ryan Dignan in a front two in place of Jamie McCabe.

As mentioned the game got off to the worst possible start when Dale Richardson put the visitors in front after just 13 secs after being allowed far too much space in the box. The game meandered until the break with neither side creating many clear cut chances or playing much quality football.

The second half was much the same and the only real bit of quality saw Ryan Porteous complete a decent Star move to make sure of the three points on the hour mark.

The result, as it stands, plunges The Gowfers deep in to trouble especially alongside the other results saw Forfar West End and Kennoway Star Hearts both record unlikely victories. It may turn out that relegation isn’t a problem depending on the rumoured exodous of clubs from, predominantly, the south of the region to the East Of Scotland League, however, a big improvement is needed on this performance to avoid any possibility of relegation.

Carnoustie : Robbie, Buggins, Cook, Harwood, Roche, Roberts, Urquhart, Conway (McCabe), Dignan, Martin, Mair (Simpson)

Subs Not Used : Cormack, Steel, Paterson
