GOWFERS FIGHT BACK TWICE FOR A POINT

Carnoustie came from behind twice to thwart Dundee North End at North End Park and take a point from a 2-2 draw.

Manager Phil McGuire was forced into changes with no fewer than seven players missing leaving just 15 players available of which two of those were youngsters Jack Chalmers and Rhys Hoon. Greg Warwick returned in place of Ryan Roche and Jamie Winter started the game in place of injured Kieran McWalter.

The sides went in at half time level at 0-0 after an entertaining half, however, neither goalkeeper had to make a save.

Ten minutes into the second half North End took the lead,  a cross by Liam Gibb wasn’t dealt with and Ben Britton produced a great piece of skill to flick the ball over Warwick before volleying the ball past Darren Clarkson. Clarkson made two wonder saves to keep the score at 1-0 but Carnoustie were looking tired, however, they were still looking for an equaliser and got their reward on 71 minutes when a headed clearance by Sam Simpson was picked up by Louis Joyce , he drove forward at speed before finding Ross Fraser and his perfect cross was turned home by Ryan Dignan.

The game was now end to end and North End looked to have won it on 84 minutes when Jack Allan pinched the ball off Bailey Steel, pushed forward before finding Archie Thomas who fired the ball home from the edge of the box. The reigning champions weren’t done and despite several players being dead on their feet, Kieran Conway equalised on 90 minutes when Sam Simpson drove into the box before finding Conway a=on the edge of the box and he sent a curling effort in to the far corner of Gary Thain’s net.

What could be a valuable point for The Gowfers in the bigger picture of things, they battled for 90 minutes even with four of the five players struggling to run at the end of the game.
